Scott dresses for the launch show
Scott remained away at Strictly and called Radio 1 from the dress rehearsal. The sequinned outfit was tight enough to restrict his movement, while the dressing rooms were filled with glamorous contestants in rollers and dressing gowns waiting for their costumes to be completed.
The nerves had arrived properly. Scott still did not think his dancing had improved, but the launch recording was now too close for him to hide behind future practice. He could see fellow contestants moving around the set and knew the group routine was about to become television.
Sam Smith returns to the Live Lounge
Sam Smith joined the programme after performing in Radio 1’s Live Lounge during Even More Music Month. The subdued studio lighting suited him, although he joked that he did not receive the full Beyoncé treatment.
He then faced Real or No Real, with the day’s first claim suggesting that trousers caused twice as many British accidents as chainsaws. Sam initially rejected it, reasoning that very little could go wrong while getting dressed.
A bag of smashed mirror changes the answer
Sam then remembered that he had a scar created by exactly that activity. After breaking a mirror, he had placed the pieces in a bag and left it beside a door. Jet-lagged and trying to put on his trousers, he fell onto the bag.
The extraordinary personal evidence did not help him settle the question, but the claim was real. Scott’s programme had found somebody able to explain immediately how an apparently harmless item of clothing could become more dangerous than expected.
Bananas, fake breasts and celebrity tables
Another statement concerned Five Seconds of Summer being struck on stage by fake breasts. Sam knew the band through their record label and understood the intensity of their fans, but his own strangest projectile had been a banana. Flowers were preferable and anything containing urine would make him leave the stage.
The game also tested Sam on an MTV awards venue and Kim Kardashian’s photograph of celebrity place cards. Even when the facts went against him, his trouser story had already supplied the round’s most convincing piece of evidence.
