A stranger becomes Radio 1’s new Breakfast Show presenter

Listener Declan described being mistaken for Wayne Rooney by a group of Chinese tourists during a school trip to Switzerland. He signed Rooney’s name and posed for photographs, having previously considered joining a lookalike agency. Scott thought the show could create its own agency from listeners who resembled famous people, while Declan offered to help whenever a substitute Rooney was needed.

Radio 1 had announced that Chris Moyles would leave the Breakfast Show and Nick Grimshaw would take over in September. Scott sent Chris onto Great Portland Street with a story that Grimmy had disappeared before a live interview. He persuaded a woman to pose as the new presenter, and she claimed she had only just heard the news, hoped Beyoncé would congratulate her and intended to invite Diana Vickers and Lily Allen onto the programme.

The fake Grimmy said she had not thought of any features beyond keeping the show fresh and casually agreed that her salary would exceed £1 million. Chris repeatedly interrupted as the increasingly confused volunteer tried to maintain the pretence, but Scott carried the interview through to a formal good-luck message for her new job.

Chris then worried about the large hole in the jeans he had worn after the previous day’s Innuendo Bingo. Nobody had told him whether he had exposed himself in the pub, prompting Scott and Beccy to recall other wardrobe malfunctions they had witnessed but felt unable to mention. Listener Ellie topped them with the story of leaving her bikini bottoms attached to a boat and walking along a Vietnamese pier in front of about 60 passengers.

Chris revealed that he had visited a London casino alone and spent about £30, inspiring a plan for the team to dress smartly and recreate Ocean’s Eleven. In Oh, What’s Occurring?, Chris faced listener John in a question about a naturist edition of The Hotel Inspector. John guessed that it contained seven innuendos and Chris guessed 70, but the final compilation produced 25.
