Grimmy’s furniture trip fails and Matt Fincham is wound up
Grimmy arrived having spent roughly six hours in the car for almost no reason. He had forced himself out of bed before dawn, recruited a friend and driven to a furniture place outside London in the hope of buying the dining table he needed for his new home.
The small flaw in the plan was that it was closed on Tuesdays. After arriving late, finding the doors shut and stopping for coffee, Grimmy drove all the way back to Broadcasting House, where Chris was happy to describe the entire expedition as an avoidable disaster.
The cover run continued to make Scott’s absence part of the joke, while Grimmy tried to keep the familiar show machinery going. A listener’s nightmare story about waking up alone in a train depot set the tone for a day of avoidable travel mishaps and exhausted people.
Grimmy and Chris also revisited their efforts to annoy producer Matt Fincham. Their affection for a previous bit had reached the stage where Grimmy listened back to himself, something he normally hated doing, simply because he found Fincham’s irritation so funny.
With Scott still away for Eurovision, the programme became an invitation to build an alternative party in Grimmy’s garden. The proposed guest list quickly became absurdly ambitious, but the more immediate concern was whether Grimmy would ever acquire chairs for the people he wanted to invite.
