Scott explains the lottery and Chris revisits his 17th year
Scott returned to a misunderstanding created by his National Lottery appearance with David Hasselhoff. Viewers had convinced themselves that the numbers had already been drawn abroad before the television programme, and that Scott and the Hoff were simply recreating the result.
He tried to explain how the broadcast worked without ruining its sense of occasion, while Chris remained fascinated by the public reaction. The pair also took aim at Hoff-based wordplay, with Scott arguing that not every word containing a vaguely suitable sound should be forced into a David Hasselhoff joke.
Chris then moved 24 Years at the Tap End on to his seventeenth year. His memories included a weekend plan involving football, a barbecue and a road trip, as well as the familiar complications that followed whenever he and his friends tried to organise something sociable.
The story also returned to an old romantic near-miss, which Chris clearly hoped might pass without too much attention. Scott was not prepared to let that happen, treating Chris’s own written account as evidence and enjoying every moment of the embarrassment.
The show finished with an Innuendo Bingo duel, restoring the format to two contestants, two cups of water and one bin. It was a suitably messy end to a programme that had begun with television magic, Hoff puns and an attempt to make the lottery look less suspicious.
