Beccy is haunted by “Every day I’m shufflin’”
Scott began It’s Only Bley Friday with an apology. Listeners had judged that week’s classical-music shout of the feature title insufficiently committed, with one saying it had lasted only eight seconds. Scott accepted that he had let down both the audience and himself, before trying to summon more passion for the weekend.
The programme’s main target was Beccy’s deep dislike of the line “Every day I’m shufflin’” from LMFAO’s Party Rock Anthem. She said the lyric made her cringe so intensely that she could barely say it, a reaction Scott and Chris had been exploiting all week.
Scott then escalated the joke by asking everyone who knew Beccy to ring her and include the line in a voicemail. The resulting compilation featured friends, colleagues and family members disguising the phrase as important news, a dinner invitation or a request to return a call.
Beccy could recognise what was coming almost immediately and stopped listening before many messages reached their punchline. The repetition did not make the lyric any less annoying to her, but it gave Scott exactly the response he wanted: an entirely avoidable irritation turned into a sizeable on-air feature.
It was a compact Friday programme built around a very small piece of pop music and an even smaller bit of mischief. Scott’s mock regret over the opening shout and the voicemail ambush kept the show in its familiar mode, where the team’s private annoyances were treated as material for everyone else to enjoy.
