5 June 2006: Scott’s Mum Gets Her Revenge

After weeks of Scott winding up his notoriously gullible mum on air, she finally gets her revenge with an elaborate wind-up involving a fake BBC press office call threatening to expose a scandal.

Scott’s mother has been the target of repeated on-air pranks over the previous weeks — everything from stories about her being arrested and stuck in a folding bed to a plastic bag incident and a broken metatarsal, culminating in a claim she was going on X-Factor. Fed up with being the butt of jokes, she orchestrates payback with help from the show’s team.

The revenge takes the form of a convincing phone call from a supposed BBC press office figure claiming there’s a serious problem. The caller alleges that someone from the show has upset a Casualty actress, who’s now threatening to go to The Sun newspaper with a damaging story. The fabricated tale escalates absurdly: the actress claims Scott went back to her hotel room after a DJ dinner, was found naked on the bed, and even has a supposed tattoo of an anchor with “Hello Sailor” above it. The fake press officer pressures Scott to either admit it happened and apologize, or risk being accused of calling the actress a liar — a classic no-win scenario designed to panic him.

Scott, initially confused and then genuinely flustered, insists none of it is true and refuses to confess to something that didn’t happen. The call captures him at his most rattled, trying to logic his way out of the trap while the “press office” keeps tightening the screws. It’s a perfectly executed reversal: Scott the prankster becomes Scott the panicked victim, finally understanding what his mum has been putting up with.
