  1. Think when next chance anything opens up it would be good move and would be good to have a daytime radio 1 national show to ne out of England permanently for the first time. I think they are more keen to use Cardiff studios for stuff.
  2. Think listeners could’ve preferred someone like Katie Thistleton. Think with Jamie Laing think adds to the argument that BBC are too often going for television personalities and celebrities over radio presenters. It’s odd to go for a celebrity that doesn’t feel that relatable to many listeners with a background of a posh Londoner when compared to Jordan very down to earth fairly young and from northern working class background. I do feel that if Katie isn’t promoted soon she could be the next name the station loses by giving her something. James Cusack I wouldn’t include him yet as he isn’t on the pay roll think both Danny Howard and Sara Storie are from the north.
  3. I do remember around the same time he was touted to be the next host of Heart breakfast by tabloids like The Sun. But maybe in a year or so if he isn’t enjoying radio 2 as much he could be persuaded to move and quite possibly reunite with Chris Stark and be offered a podcast and deal where they can have more freedom interms of content they’d wish to produce as features they did on radio 1 was good for clicks and views and think a commercial station would look for that.
  4. If Scott would join a Global station it would be Heart I’d imagine. He is most certainly more loyal to the BBC and may not fancy doing the competitions and commercial. He is on a salary which he most certainly would be happy with but it would be a good poach for him on Heart and think I’d rather have Heart on over radio 2 daytimes.
  5. But seems to be a P.R mess up if they stated that only a few hours ago when they announced that he was to leave and his last show would air early march. They should’ve pre-determined any conflict of interests if there were any ahead of the P.R public statement. If the BBC knowingly released the statement at the time that he had presented his last show after an agreed conflict of interest the statement should’ve reflected that he had already presented his last show which is uncommon from any press release. The fact is they seemed to falsely state a conflict in decision making.
  6. Cant imagine show as they never address the elephant in the room after someone has been dropped from the schedule.
  7. If he was on gardening leave I don’t know why it was announced in the press release that he was staying on.
  8. Not when there has been no official release about his next job and hasn’t started a promotional campaign for a rival network. He was still pressed to work until early march and has been personally quiet. So he’s yet to promote any move if they weren’t going to allow him to continue doing his show why did they include it in the press announcement.
  9. Can assume that the tabloids will probably trying to work to get a scoop from the BBC about his rushed exit before thThe end of the month. Can imagine it will be another P.R muck-up and something that online news sources will work to capitalise on.
  10. I wonder if Katie doesn’t get a promotion to daytimes soon. I wonder if too soon she will go.
  11. No wonder why he seems to be dropped immediately from the schedule.
  12. With Ken Bruce we heard something straight away and it seemed that his departure of Radio 2 was announced simultaneously that he would be taking his show over to Greatest Hits Radio since there is no announcement by Global or Bauer of him joining Capital or another breakfast show makes this rash change to the schedule feel more baffling. With Ken he was on campaign mode straight away for Greatest Hits but still had two more weeks at Radio 2 or something like that and could say goodbye to Radio 2 and the BBC on-air. But if this contridicts the press announcement. Why?
  13. On the press release said his last show will be in March but if he wont be on the drive programme it would feel like they absolutely fudged it up and will leave for many disappointed listeners.
  14. I think that the future of the station is still good even if it is only a third of what it is now the station has about 7.3 million listeners at the last RAJAR and has been a increasing focus on growing the on-demand stations. Even if it lost a two thirds of its listeners you still on par as being higher than Radio X, BBC Radio 6 Music and Capital Xtra and much higher than any of the stations exclusively targeting the ageing population of elder radio listeners. I think that if worked on accepting itself not as chasing the commercial entities which inevitably will never attract the younger demographic of listeners and tried experimentation and see it as a public service youth community station it might have a sustainable future.
  15. I give this drivetime show six months max it feels another Simon Mayo and Jo Whiley
  16. It is I think within senior management of it’s youth station I do feel that as you hint that BBC needs to ensure it doesn’t discriminate against age but do think that in the board of management, commissioning giving the direction of programming, content, events and playlisting there needs to feel that multi-generational representation. Why I think if the station were to be too concerned with experience in certain positions at the station would be an issue. I’d argue with the current slate of radio 1 presenters like Clara Amfo (Although out-going), Ricky, Melvin, Charlie, Greg, Matt, Mollie, Jamie all fit in the age demographic of 30-45 years Hits Radio, Kiss and Kisstory are names commercially who try to fill that gap. It depends on who specifically are you talking about in these demographics aren’t represented and how. I will critique that if Radio 1 were more focused on not signing those who already were signed with commercial radio in senior roles or are celebrities from television e.g with Ricky, Melvin and Charlie as an example of commercial and don’t see how Jamie Leing is a pull for a younger demographic. If it realised that it can still lose some listeners numbers but if focused on deliver something that could try to music wise get ahead of new artists and the music young generations would have found on Tik-Tok but focus on just not seeing them on Tik-Tok and trying to have programmes and podcasts that can discuss things of the demographics that the station should be reaching out to. I think they don’t have to pouch content creators to present radio 1’s radio programmes but if they had people who develop tik-tok, instagram content that is successful in younger generations they should look to hire to produce digital social media content for the radio 1 social media channel and look to see how the station needs to rethink its social media strategy.
  17. I think unless a it’s April the 1st, which feels international don’t do a serious PR announcement day, it could be fake but no P.R team would allow something like this to be reported on national news sources, Burnley local press … without it being true.
  18. Maybe it would be unspoken message to Aled and management that they waited too long to offer him the breakfast programme. I feel that the next breakfast presenters on any of the BBCs radio stations will be asked to take a smaller pay package to their predecessor. Potentially with Jordan if he has signed with Global could end up presenting original podcasts for their network of growing roster.
  19. Definately, part of me thinks that they should look to do what they are maybe wrongly pursing with the amount of ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ content that is being commissioned, is that right now it’s going down the populist path trying to recreate something that is akin to the commercial sector Radio 2 are doing that with their extra station that could be cast in doubt not just because of Boom Radio’s objections. Right now Reprezent a community youth station in London sees an uncertain future ahead of them. They supported the careers of Nels Hylton and had provided space for few of the names of those who did the Christmas presenting. Playing new, fresh and exciting music whether thats rap, electronic and indie stuff all curated by their presenters. I think the future of the station needs to be seen as the community station of youth culture and should represent that on air. Think the issue with the hot re-occurrences now playlisted on the station with Sophie Ellis-Bextor and previously with Kate Bush the radio 1 playlist and the station itself feels like it’s following after Tik-Tok with it’s playlist not before it.
  20. I know they didn’t want Jordan to leave but if they can manage to launch the 00s/10s station of what assume that can label working title of ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ and with the closure of Radio 1 Relax. I think going into 2025 the station will vastly have a different set of programming as it does now. By August Greg would’ve done six years on breakfast and already with other podcasting, broadcasting and writing interests it seems that he may have other interests he would pursue. I think naturally the right moment to step down and if the main station is to focus on the younger demographic of the flagship ‘Radio 1’ as ‘Radio 1 Anthems’ and ‘Radio 1 Dance’ launches on DAB+. Maybe there be re-negotiation of some contracts to afford to fund the new stations.
  21. I feel that since it could make sense for Greg James to leave this year too or at the end of the year it could be a very short stint for Jamie Leing on drivetime I assume and later on another big shake-up can’t see him as a long term figure.
  22. Capital FM or even Hits Radio as they replace legacy brands like Swansea’s The Wave would be a good poach after poaching Ace for their new sunday night R&B Show on Kiss FM
  23. Biggest shock. Something I totally couldn’t see coming at all. None of us could. Huge blow for the station as he was one the stations biggest assets.
  24. Yes and the fact that unlike the others referenced Blackburn, Walker, Gambo and Harris dont entertain the listeners in a way that the others could be expected to produce anything more than three hours of new programmes a week. I kind of expected it to be a station that would be very playlist heavy dependent on pulling from the archives of BBCs sessions and interviews. Wright did that star like appeal and there was still an audience who would’ve made for a decent number of listeners for a new start up station that could’ve lured more audience from Greatest Hits or Boom for when he is on air. I think eventually they may look at a presenter like Craig Charles to present a version of the funk and soul show over on the station. I think a more funk, soul from Motown to Northern Soul, blues and jazz could end up being the main focus.
