  1. I find he has a good personality for doing stuff that isn’t just music it’s his super enthusiastic ADHD energy. He seems to have an authentic natural sense of humour and empathy and interest in his fans. I think with Future Sounds interim period between Annie and Clara was good to have him and Charli XCX each do a week as I’m a fan of artists getting a short stint at playing the music they are influenced by and the music they are loving a listening to. Do think that Radio 1 should have it’s own version of the Artist In Residency that 6 Music does as after Becky Hill doing a good job on Dance Party over Christmas. Having an artist selecting songs over an hour per week for a month would make for good BBC Sounds content.
  2. Yes it’s Katie’s first time with having her name above the drive time door so yes. Also with access all apps it’s sounds like he never heard of the feature. Think if like joined the station which many people who want to get into the radio industry and make it national its a station that they wish to aspire to.
  3. which I think making it about himself and what the listeners have criticised his position as a co-host of the new drive show that could give that impression of him being out of touch and cringingly name dropping plus the fact he didn’t know the start time and the size of audience even if it. Was said in jest doesn’t help him on the show.
  4. I mean for being booked on as a cover presenter or presenting for as someone that is filling a specific time slot before a permanent decision is made like Danny Beard and Martha.
  5. Does feel odd not having a contract as of yet and was announced as a permanent presenter. Is Jamie Laing on trial and they making it possible if he doesn’t work out he wouldn’t be on the contracted pay roll.

    Jamie Lang

I think Matt has done various co-hosts for few set of weeks and a week and more permanently with Mollie King of course but Rylan, Example, Scarlette Moffat and Jamie Laing possibly one off with Alice Levine. Chris Stark so he is very experienced working with other presenters and how to maker it work. Working in television sure he might’ve co-hosted with Rylan yes possibly another presenter but requires to interact with multiple personalities and can lend bit of handy experience. It helps that with Matt Edmonson’s experience at that point he had been on the station for some time and is one of the stations most capable and talented presenters seems to have a lot ideas, knows how to keep things professional on its feet deal with any challenges and mishaps and is ready to get involved and work out the tone for the moment. He has been good when he has had to deal with more sensitive and difficult moments like Annie Nightingale’s passing. I feel he was the right presenter to take mollie under his wing and has helped in the success of her broadcasting career.
  7. I kind of think the next presenter of afternoons on weekends needs to be a solo presenter. Aled needs to wean listeners of becoming too custom of hearing their radio dj’s hands being held.
  8. Since they could do some live non-simulcasted content it would be good to have Arielle Free maybe doing Tuesday and Wednesday editions of her new dance show on Radio 1 Dance or have an exclusive content role on it.
  9. Probably if she didn’t get moved up to join drive she could’ve ended up on a station like Capital with him. Atleast if Jamie Laing doesn’t last long on the station like when 1 Xtra signed DJ Cuppy. least they have a presenting team that someone did leave out of the team that they have someone to remain and give a sense of continuity. Given the fact that nearly every daytime programme is done as a team of presenters and not just one presenter it opens the station up to more regular changes between presenters.
  10. If that happen it will only be early breakfast, breakfast, official charts and dance anthems left with daytime presenters without having their hand held. Seriously don’t need all this hand holding too many cooks spoils the broth as the saying goes.
  11. Yes definately a plausible outcome but it is a messy year for the station atleast when Radio 3 announced their slate of programming changes at once and could’ve got that in order
  12. I think they most likely be taking their weekend show and just taking it to weekdays
  13. Think its business as usual with lifehacks
  14. I think after a while of the 3am alarms and early nights having the ability to have a normal week day life back probably is something that would be something for er to count as a positive. As it is said she has specialist music interest and probably enjoy exploring more new exciting projects along with the new show and can imagine that in the next stages of Radio 1 Dance when it moves to be a DAB+ station could imagine that she will be heavily involved in.
  15. I hope they do keep Future Pop on the station and it isn’t completely axed.
  16. Certainly is when afternoons is considered a move up from early breakfast it is where Scott and Greg started out.
  17. The reports in the press suspect announcement in coming days with the announcement and implies with a swap between Dean and Vicky who could take weekend afternoons.
  18. Don’t know think recently ditching Elis James & John Robins from the station’s live output to produce their programme as a podcast first show to focus on news and sports stories in their old slot with Colin Murray’s new time slots on Friday and Sunday. I wouldn’t be surprised if once Patrick Kielty leaves they will make his slot to reflect news and sport and feels like primary focus with 5 Live. I could be wrong but I think if not 1 xtra or radio 2 commercial.
  19. Radio 1 isn’t a student station but I think it would be more innovative if it was more of a launchpad of careers of broadcasters. Rickie, Melvin & Charlie as much as they’ve been ok in very tiny small doses shouldn’t have been poached. If the experienced argument it’s hard to get any new presenters to go on national if radio 1 for it’s programming got too dependable on poaching national broadcasters the station would show it’s behind the trend and not in front of it. It’s hard enough as it is when got BBC local cuts and most presenters on BBC local being over 40 and not many new positions and the risk not Reprezent London’s forward thinking underground new music community station on the brink of going under. Radio 1 needs to be that space that takes more of a punt and rolls the dice. It’s not about being the best when you think your best is your competition. Think it could be different for radio presenter like Alex given that he wasn’t presenting a high profile show on his network and it is unfortunate that Kiss are letting some of it’s finest presenters go. I do think that it has to be put into question that the station needs to look for younger talent. or reassert and evaluate how it markets itself. Remember before Radio 1 did have a weekly Monday night student radio hour over twelve weeks possibly 2016/2017 and think those different slots are lacking.
  20. I think that Alex Masuroglu should stay at Kiss as he is an asset they need and a goiod talent they shouldn’t pass on although the two mentioned succeeding his name on your list no longer work at the stations they were at think there needs to be chances for those who haven’t had experience on national radio to have a chance at presenting on the station in key slots. I think a national station like radio 1 needs to be where presenters make their names and find it a bit to commercial, too safe and populist to continually trying to pick the players out from the opposing team.
  21. Unless there is more to it I don’t know whether the official BBC presser has been published but might be the tabloids jumping the gun and getting the scoop in early and leaking before BBC have any chance of keeping it embargoed and as a big surprise announcement. I think Dean McCullough maybe more comfortable than Vicky in terms of cover choices as he is the only one out of the pair to have done breakfast cover and has done it solo. Interesting of what will be said behind the scenes to keep the two presenters happy with the changes.
  22. Agreed, Capital Dance works really well with a proper drivetime show with features, competitions and interviews live I think Radio 1 Dance could work if played less of the generic dance playlist of hit and and classics with dance anthems and the repetitive playlist I think if they went to do more underground dance music for it’s dance station. As think people would choose Matti Chaibi, MistaJam and Charlie Powell over Charlie Hedges’s dance anthems repeats or any the workout and generic playlist programme. I think there is obvious tweaks to be made to the proposed new stations but if say for Radio 2 Extra with names like Trevor Nelson, Aleighcia Scott, DJ Spoony, David Rodigan, Craig Charles and Rickie, Melvin & Charlie, Don Letts, Seani B and Eddie Kadi think would be able to have a more secure pool of presenters than Paul Gamboccini, Bob Harris, Tony Blackburn and Johnnie Walker who are the most likely picks for programming for the intended plan of Radio 2 Extra. Think it would make it more possible of retaining the more veteran talent at 1 Xtra than avoiding any further departures like Ace who has gone to Kiss.
  23. With the Radio 2 sister station that came recently I do think there is a gap in the market that they could’ve explored that Radio 1 Xtra doesn’t serve if the Radio 2 Extra was more like 1 Xtra but for the elder bracket of black British audiences that isn’t best served by the station in playing more of the heritage genres and the early sounds of black British culture from ska, roots reggae, socca, bashment, soul, funk, jazz, blues, dancehall early golden age hip hop and R&B and classic garage and jungle.
  24. I think it may have taken them time to get in the groove but think for an early random pairing they did a good job of making it work. I always enjoyed hearing Matt Edmonson covering Scott Mills with Chris Stark and liked his solo weekend morning show which had a lot of original ideas from Edmonson making for good content.
  25. I mean that would be different as Radio 1 Xtra on their entertainment shows haven’t got a massive name that they poached from another station Kaylee Golding and Swarzy are poached from Kiss am sure but haven’t become massive personalities or not as by the time they came to 1X. I’m sure they are talented broadcasters but getting Rickie and Melvin to do it would be something that could help the station in listener figures. Although if Global did want to relaunch Galaxy or a blend of ‘Heart Dance’ and ‘Capital Xtra Reloaded they would be good for a station like that.
