  1. Yes, which influenced an era of British radio and many successful shows someone that imagine Scott Mills, Chris Moyles, Chris Evans and many others seemed to have been influenced by that style brought something that really worked over decades.
  2. Agreed, I was to young to hear him and whilst I heard him for minutes at a time previously his programme didn’t appeal to me but as you said cant deny his impact and respect what had achieved over his radio career@DC
  3. When read-up about The Blue Room it’s seemed like something I’d have listened to when it was on-air. I hope they consider giving a rejig to some of the evening programmes which could move The Chillest Show back to late night on sunday for three hours like it was when Phil Taggart presented it. I think Power Down can work on a weekly basis as has done on Monday but think there will be move to scale back from its three nights a week presence. Regarding with its Christmas programming they would have to consider do they effectively want to be another Christmas music rsdio service when that time of year comes.
  4. Got to be. I’d like to see there be a station that was any songs that has charted in the top 40 since 1952 on shuffle with no order or theme to what tracks are being played.
  5. I assume Dua Lipa musty be vying for a headline slot this year and wouldn’t be surprised if she is on Glastonbury’s bill it would have made sense that she’d announce the details of her forthcoming album around that time considering her next single of it is dropping very soon. She’s been an artist the station has nurtured from her first single around eight years ago. It seems plausible for Olivia Rodrigo to perform on the back of the success of her sophomore album. It’s another year that is touted to be another success story for female pop artists with Taylor Swift bringing her sell out Era’s tour to the U.K and have the return of Ariana Grandé, Zara Larson and Lady Gaga who could be doing big performances in the U.K in the space of the dance and electronic studded could have Nia Archives and Pink Pantheress. Do think Nothing But Thieves could make it to the big stage but wonder if they could end up booking Noah Kahan or Teddy Swimms who have been quite popular in both charts, radio play and social media.
  6. I can’t imagine that the BBC would have Garry Glitter back on their stations playlists.
  7. I wonder if say they do manage to launch Radio 2 Extra station and it works out to be feasible to broadcast Sound of the 60’s and 70s exclusively on the station wonder if they could do a contemporary take on the Rock show with less of the classic rock from the 70s featured but some of the metal, grunge and emo rock stuff from 80s-00s. It should at least allow Radio 2 to look at it’s own prime programming and have a more of a creative liscense in creating content for the middle generations and take more risks than Heart, Virgin or Greatest Hits Radio and if Radio 1 effectively manages to launch it’s ‘Anthems’ and ‘Dance’ stations it should be able to take plenty of liberties when it comes to the stations main playlist.
  8. See no reference to the 40s considering its 64 years since the end of 50s there’s still a living audience for that as plenty of people like the music of the year they were born in there is an audience as they probably have people who’d listen to the rock & roll, jazz and blues stuff from the decade but it’s an audience that they are targeting is reaching the generation of the figure of optimal natural life expectancy. It’s a demographic that might only use the service for a decade or such but with our ageing population and elder population making up the users of traditional forms of medium. It wont be a massive audience but for a smaller station it would likely get a modest audience.
  9. I mean 6 Music does an indie forever programme and some of that era feels on Absolute and Radio X’s turf. It does feel like a 6 Music thing in sense of the playlist focusing on indie and alternative stuff but if they do a Radio 1 Indie there’d be 101 stations on the BBC Sounds app. I think it shows how radio has really changed in the last decade or so with so many stations becoming more themic and mood based.
  10. Yes, I think that’s always been the problem for myself with these livestreams I’m not one that often listens to Capital Dance but know they do have a really good station and MistaJam and the rest of the team have done a good job of delivering a station that is less of a generic playlist with guests on the programmes and audience interaction and feels very thought out in playlist of what they choose to play. I think to an extent they could go further delving into the more underground scenes and sub genres of dance being a bit more eclectic and reflecting the broadness of the mass genre of dance. But as the only dance exclusive station of dance it’s something I can imagine is one that can be the mood booster for those working night shifts, going to the gym etc. with Radio 1 Dance it’s content is probably most enjoyed still at the weekends in simulcast or catch-up with certain programmes from likes of Danny Howard or Pete Tong. With the ability to catch Pete Tong, Essential Mix, Drum & Bass show on sounds app and can have it in feed through subscribing. I always wonder the stats of those who click on the dance station on the dial on bbc sounds.
  11. I don’t know it would be stupid and rather foolish doing a big presser around it that the internal news organisation went to put it in news bulletins all for it to fail to happen. I think had they focused on something of a exclusive new music service that promotes new talent with continuing supporting up and coming new bands and artists here in the U.K and abroad almost akin to flagship shows across the network like New Music Fix and Future Sounds and championing the ‘introducing’ scheme would’ve been something the BBC could’ve made a credible case that might’ve seen less competitive than the launch of Radio 1 Dance on DAB+ and nostalgia driven stations that could from the press release draw comparisons to existing commercial stations. I think it could encourage elder listeners to share listening time between Boom and its sister stations and Greatest Hits and Smooth radio but doubt that it could bring back any elder listeners who may have become disillusioned with the current state of Radio 2 as becoming their primary station of choice again. I think Radio 1 Dance if passes to launch on DAB+ could garner a decent audience and assuming by this announcement that the clicks of the BBC Sounds feed has been very successful unlike Radio 1 Relax with this populist move of the BBC had it retained a strong audience they might’ve not decommissioned it and why alternatively they seem to be going for what sounds like an ‘Anthems’ station.
  12. It will be interesting to see when they smooth out the details and know what these stations are going to look like what formatting and programming is put out on the station the 00s-10s station is one of the biggest selling point as unlike with Radio 1 Dance and Radio 1 Xtra the purpose and the audience seems much clear as 1 Xtra launched to serve the young black community and Dance feels like a natural extension of the internet radio station and the stations specialist programming. This new station its harder to tell what it will become.
  13. I think a clever thing would be to treat most of Sundays playlist in Matt & Mollie, Lifehacks, Sam & Danni having adopting the playlist of Radio 1 Relax and embedding it in to the vibe. As they did select some good tracks in the playlist and could be around the regular features and programming of the station. I wonder what their listening stats of people who click on the live feed.
  14. They have objected think given the fact that with Radio 2’s spin-off proposition it feels like its trying to compete with recent start-up Boom radio that has proven a success with older generations but couldn’t see this Radio 2 Extra station being a primary choice and it be something that elder listeners could listen in addition to stations like boom.
  15. with Radio 1 Dance going on DAB+ adding Jeremiah’s and Tiffany Calver’s Radio 1 Xtra shows to the station wouldn’t go amiss with in keeping with the rave and club feel of the network.
  16. I think launching a 00s-10s nostalgia station isn’t quite what is needed when Absolute 00s and 10s exist with a whole host of networks airing that recent nostalgia playlist. The thing that could’ve earned them some points is creating a Future Sounds / New Music Fix style station with a 24/7 focus on new music and new artist something that can target the music specialism audience that is unique to the BBC and feels like a bit of a better way to lure listeners to tune in on a regular basis leisurely at at anytime of day even for moments as a way of finding something different to add to playlist and have on radar.
  17. I think how the BBC is set to have to push for new cuts this year think some stuff that has been announced in spending changes like the return of BBC Three to free-to-air linear broadcasting. With the cuts set to close Radio 4 Extra this year that there maybe something that later this decade smaller pop music radio stations could be put at risk. As podcasting and internet radio amongst a much larger commercial audience to the demographic of 1 Xtra, Kiss and Capital Xtra will see itself as a much attractive audience to broadcast to.
  18. I’m not surprised recent years have shown that when comes to Live Lounges, funding and investment for digital video content has gone down in recent times. I do think this inevitably the year where we can see a plan of how this could impact the stations regular schedule with maybe break-up of certain duo’s and maybe look at moving some shows from 1 xtra to air across Radio 1. As see a possibility where 1 Xtra a station who has been struggling with attracting a new audience with listener figures shrinking and rivalling its competition of Kiss and Capital Xtra.
  19. Wonder who’s who of the artists being selected for this years big weekend I think it would be a good pick and potentially the right year too have Dua Lipa headlining Declan McKenna, Last Dinner Party , CMAT, RAYE, Nothing But Thieves I’ll expect on thee line-up
  20. I think that if they do end up having a new Capital Breakfast show this year with Sian leaving as co-host possibly still staying at the network taking This Morning’s Friday slot or becoming a new show regular and someone who could regularly start appearing on television programmes.
  21. It’s good to refresh often. I think the best way heard throwbacks being aired on the station was bangers and Radio 1’s Greatest Hit’s in 2017-2018 of the stations 50th celebrations. I find its always best when hearing an older track when have presenter or listener picking and choosing older track something that can be given a bit of enthusiasm and excitement than just being pulled out. That said think giving that the station has listed tracks within the last year on the hot recurrent tracks is a decent pragmatic move and which I hope that can give breakout artists first solo tracks to get a spin months or a year after they were released when had one or two tracks out that help them garner support and attention like done before with Wet Leg and last dinner party. It totally makes sense in May surrounding big weekend.
  22. I think a part of Annie Nighingale’s ability of getting a long career at Radio 1 is that the ability to build good bonds in her 53 years at the station she has probably had over a hundred of producers working on her show not even including the colleagues in the building. She seemed very encouraging and nurturing and co-operative finding ways of give the right advise and saying the right words and helping along the way. I can’t imagine her ever being difficult when Matt Edmonson talked about Radio 1 as family and how she was at the core of the Radio 1 family I feel like Annie would include Martha and the behind the scenes crew in that.
  23. I guess it’s marking the viral tiktok reheated hits crawling back to popularity. I’m not a fan of having a specific playlist for it to make it a regular thing in the playlist. I think it should be sparingly and the odd random play but not enough to feel like it’s on a playlist. Playing an older track should be spontaneous. I know we can listen to any throwback tunes when we want but on an station like radio 1 it should feel like a surprise of not expecting to hear this haven’t heard this on the radio in ages.
  24. Seen past colleagues like Nick Grimshaw, Annie Macmanus, Zane Lowe, Gilles Peterson, RobDaBank, Jamz Supernova, Charlie Sloth making tributes to her on social media I no doubt that the list goes on

    Radio rumours

Mos likely, I think he seems not mad on music and probably a limited taste of what he actually likes and through his radio 1 career tolerated it for the pay cheque and that probably explains how he spent half or the time rambling on and on.
