  1. Since Chris claims that his podcast is not a one-off thing, I think a separate thread is in need. My initial thoughts: it's a really good idea. Chris is really good when he's talking to other people, but sounds slightly 'staged' when he's alone. I think it's something in his voice, you can hear that he's reading the script instead of just talking. We get some really good, unknown stuff - Chris used to be a phone call receiver at R1 (I for once didn't know that he used to work behind the scenes) and what's one feature that Greg will have on his Breakfast. He also called Beccy - quite weird that he says she's one of his best friends and then says that he hasn't spoken to her for ages. Still, really nice to hear from her. I didn't really like Good News Jamie in this podcast, he kind of shaded Scott. I don't think he meant to, but it turned out cringe and awkward. Still a bit rough, but a decent start of something great.
  2. So I've been listening to some old podcasts lately and found a couple of gems. I thought maybe you have your favourites that you come back to often and we could share them. I'll go for my 3 favourites, all from 2016 because that's where I'm at now: - Bongo Bum Buddies (10.10.2016) - You Make WHAT Kind of Cakes (12.10.2016) - Contact YAAAAS (16.02.2016)
  3. I agree 100%. Scott's very sensible and he genuinely cares about Chris. He acts like his big brother and I too, think that his decision will take Chris into account. There was a similar topic a couple of months ago - about Chris's future in R1 after Scott leaves. For me - I believe he will move on with Scott. Two reasons for that: 1. he's never been allowed to do a show by himself, so he'd have to be 'an addition' to somebody's show and I can't imagine him working permanently with any other DJ - not that it wouldn't be good, but there's no chemistry like between those two; 2. I think that if Chris would be given a choice - R1 or Scott, he'd go with Scott, maybe doing some iPlayer stuff or features for other DJs, purely because it just wouldn't be the same for him.
  4. 6:30 apparently https://www.instagram.com/p/BmTAMyQAAZ5/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
  5. There will be their podcast to look forward to... And the books are good too (I'm 23 and I still love them). And that's about it. Best Newsbeat presenter and best voice on R1.
  6. For me it was round 2013-2014. I'm not from the UK and never lived there, but I've loved your culture ever since reading Harry Potter at the age of 10. So I just used to read loads of British authors, watch your telly, then go there on holidays and then I discovered that you have brilliant radio too. At first I used to listen to Radio 4 because I enjoyed the comedy bits. And it was a nice and simple way of practising my 'non-book' English (I'm not a native speaker). Then one glorious day I've decided to switch to Radio 1. First show that I've tuned in to, was Matt in for Scott. I didn't know what was going on at first but I got hooked on straight away. It was so silly and heartwarming that you couldn't help but love it. Then Scott came back and I just fell in love with him and Chris. I'd also say, that they played slightly better music back then (or maybe that's just sentiment speaking) so it was just perfect. I used to listen to almost everyone, being a student I'd had quite a lot of free time back then. Now it's just Scott and Greg, occasionally Breakfast Show and The Early Breakfast Show. I catch up on podcasts too, if I can't listen to Scott or Greg live.
  7. So Greg's last drivetime song was Mystery Jets - Bubblegum, which helped him with his 1st Gregathlon and is one of his favs. I think Grimmy didn't choose his last breakfast show song by himself, Drake - Nice for what, which they play everyday. Just a small detail here, but it's kind of showing the attitude they both have. Grimmy's treating his show just like job and Greg being ever so engaged with it. Grimmy's never been my favourite DJ, but he seems like a decent, nice chap and I hope that he'll find his new show exciting and will want to do something brilliant with it. I'll remember his breakfast show as just an okay one. [EDIT]: didn't notice that OhhErr also wrote about Grimmy's last song. Yes: Hm. sums it up neatly.
  8. Now, not to offend anyone (having started like this, obviously I probably will): I think loads of 'typical' teenagers actually liked Grimmy's show and now they've grown up a bit, they still do. He's always had famous popstars and celebs on his show and to be fair to him, he was very polite to them so they appeared to like him. He's also friends with loads of celebs so he can get them on his show pretty easily (like Rita or Harry Styles). And he did a couple of things with them that would certainly appeal to a teenage mind - the school run, the heart rate monitor, or simply gossiping with them. I've always been that nerdy, weird kid, so I can't get the hype about this stuff, but logically that's probably one of the reasons people liked his show.
  9. I think Alice is just quite restrained when she's on radio. We know a lot about Greg, Scott, Chris so we treat them like friends. I don't mean deeply personal stuff, but with Alice I don't think I could even tell what her favourite music is. Tuning in to Greg or Scott is like catching up with an old friend. As weird as it sounds - we don't know them, but at the same time, we kind of do.
  10. I'm really pleased with how Dev and Alice sound together. They are very different in terms of personalities - Alice being the organised and prepared and Dev with his happy go lucky attitude. I also quite like the banter that they have. Having said that, I agree with OhhErr in terms of - it's a good listen, but something's not quite right. I think it's the fact that Greg used to have so many different features and games and we just got used to them being there in the afternoon. Dev and Alice's show is still very fresh so it's hard to tell what their take will be. When they worked solo neither of them had really memorable features. Dev was trying really hard to make a mediocre game, emphasise how mediocre it was and laugh it off - which worked nicely for a weekend breakfast show. Alice is really smart and has a good sense of humour so I think it was her comments and remarks that made her show (also not having any significant features, games or bond with listeners). Now that they've merged their shows I'd love them to have a more patterned and specific direction for the show. For Greg it's been his features, for Matt it's his games and for Scott - his interaction with listeners and their stories (I don't think the rest of the DJs can be distinguished in that way). I really believe in them, because they're both funny and very pleasant to listen to, so I would really love them to come up with a good formula for their show. Right now, I think that's what they lack.
  11. Let's be honest: we've all lost it a while ago. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was an actual clue.
  12. Anything could happen right now, to be fair. So much tension... Greg's old school is now the main suspect. I bet, his Uni will be next. Scott's up next and he's got James The PI with him.
  13. That would be so sneaky - driving all the way up to Nottingham as a decoy and then going in an opposite direction. One thing for sure, as an international listener, I've never learned more about the geography of the UK.
  14. Well it's all based on the fact that Greg was in Nottingham at 12:30 yesterday. So they just have to be within about 3 hour radius from Nottingham.
  15. They're not denying anything at first, letting other DJs knock on some random door or shout through a window. There's also some buzz about Sheffield on twitter, probably this will be the next target, should Birmingham turn out to be dead end. Wonder if they're starting to get a bit nervous as to when will they be found. Or if they will be...
  16. So here's how things stand now: - end of term themed location; - possibly animals involved; - definitely within 2-3 hour radius from Nottingham; - possibly soundproof room so that they can broadcast from it. Still none the wiser... But the guys appear to have a bit of a break as Annie took over.
  17. Perhaps, but they used to play Albatross quite a lot when it came out.
  18. That's very good thinking actually. Still no clue as to what it means though.
  19. This tweet is also speaking in favour of a school building:
  20. Well, I'm also pro-school. The gong might have just been in the Music classroom, right? The thing is, it doesn't really narrow down the possibilities that much. There's plenty of teachers that listen to R1 and they'd be up for it too.
