  1. I'm still surprised that's being used. The "ONE" with all the girls shouting it would be an ideal replacement.
  2. The intros are still very mixed and we have 3 different types being used: The 2014 sets, sometimes with the name of the DJ on air. The sets introduced earlier this year for NMF with Mike Wooller (which as each month passes I am liking more...dammit, I knew I would ) The set with the awful plain voices introduced within the last few weeks. Can someone please grab Ben Cooper firmly and instruct him to put a simple, clear branding in place? Up until April we did, until New Music Friday came along and ruined it. Then that branding has tried to edge itself into every weekend! Yes, I've had enough of this 3-way branding direction. It's not professional.
  3. Totally agree. It's got messy now and I've had enough. THREE different types on air now. And Fridays have become NMF only verbally, you no longer hear the "It's Friday!" jingle anymore. They need to decide which direction they're going in.
  4. I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet but I knew nothing would happen today. Thursday the 1st is an awkward date to introduce new ones. I'm not sure about this Monday. I'm abroad next week so iPlayer radio all the way for catching up in bits.
  5. That's what I have been saying the last few weeks, the old VO's aren't going anywhere. Edited or cut down maybe. This week so far, the new VO's haven't been used as much as previously. Adverts and summer mixes are where they're mainly appearing.
  6. With just over a year ago to Radio 1's 50th birthday on 30th September next year, I'd be interested to know people's ideas of how they would like to see the station celebrate it. The most obvious choice for me would be to throw in a few retro jingles from over the years and have some classic highlights and features played. I think the celebration should be long-lasting, say from 1st September to 1st December. No doubt there will be another TV documentary like they did for the 40th anniversary in '07. Last years Ibiza 20th anniversary celebrations had a tagline of "Ibiza 20" so I'd like to see something similar like "Radio 1 @ 50".
  7. So Scott and Chris are on Breakfast this week and as always I look forward to it. Random banter, great music from yesteryear and today, and and early edition of Real Or No Real at 7:15am! But if there's one thing I look forward to the most and even more than ever now, it's the opening. With the same music as Grimmy's show (yes, THAT theme that he ditched to play random shizzle each morning now...buerk ), I still can't believe that nearly 2 years after they were ditched, the 2012 VO of "The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Scott Mills" is still used - it's the one created for Grimmy's takeover in September 2012. It still sounds great, however these days I've noticed they don't use the TOTH jingles anymore like they used to, these were ditched about a year ago.
  8. Haha, you've actually counted how many voices there are! But I agree with keeping the current voices for longer, the station sounds great. I don't think they will disappear completely if the new Mike Wooller ones take over permanently. The current ones don't sound dated but they can last longer. Besides, it's the main part of their image and brand, the original Where It Begin jingles from January 2015 fit in perfectly around these, as does the Newsbeat theme and Official Chart theme that launched last year. Throw the main VO's off and it throws the entire stations branding and image off. The new Mike Wooller VO's do sound powerful. Simple, but alright. I'm warming to them slightly. The fact I note times and replay them on iPlayer might be a clue there I'm warming.
  9. The new voiceovers might start from 1st September when Live Lounge Month starts. But then I'm not sure if they will. Grimmy used last years jingles on the breakfast show to advertise the fact LLM is coming back. It would seem daft for them to use old jingles to advertise it, and then use new ones with a new package from September onwards. I agree that the 2014 set has worked well with the 4 voices. The "possibly incoming" new ones still have some of the old voices tagged in slightly so let's not expect them to disappear overnight. Even better, I'd rather they didn't disappear at all, this new voiceover set with Mike Wooller is alright but the 2014 set has been the best they've had in years.
  10. I actually prefer her reading the news compared to when Dom did! She has a more natural reading style.
  11. It was surprising to hear about another fall in the listening figures. However, I don't think there will be any changes to the daytime schedule by the autumn as they wouldn't make changes based on this one fall. Lately I feel Grimmy has reached the end of his breakfast show time. I'll give it another year or so before I think he'll be moved on. The ditching of his main opener theme is a cry wolf of desperation and the recent introduction of "2p or not 2p" is a good game, but so old, dated and simple - something I'd expect to hear on Capital Gold! Scott and Chris really do liven up the show when they sit in for him but I feel even that's weakened slightly over the years, nonetheless it's still entertaining. So Mills...yeah, what a legend. Especially after that M3 bridge dedication. He's definitely the best presenter and best entertainment provided on R1 during the day. Sometimes his features and ideas are a cut above the rest and it's at times like these I feel his target audience is somewhat temporarily raised here. But having him on breakfast permanently, I'm divided on it. He always said he didn't want to do it and turned it down when Grimmy took it over, and if he ever did do it he will take Chris with him. Others here have mentioned Greg doing it. Greg is a good presenter, sometimes a buerk on-air but I don't think breakfast is for him. I can't comment much on Jordan North as I don't listen to his show much but from what I've heard of his presenting style, incorporating him into a full weekday slot would be a bad move, the same goes for Cel Spellman. I have nothing against either of them personally. Matt Edmondson, hmm, a somewhat entertaining character but sometimes needs to give it up with his wacky ideas. Desperate and attention-seeking? His attempts at creating new games have been discussed on air by Scott. The biggest mistake of last year was Clara gaining Fearne's show - Alice Levine should've got it hands down and let her weekend slot go to someone else. Alice is somewhat entertaining, funny and clever, and to attempt to be the new female Scott Mills with the "Yaaas!" thing is daring. Clara is an ex-1Xtra DJ who was given a chance, she lacks enthusiasm at times and rarely signs off with a "Bye" or "See you tomorrow" when handing to Newsbeat at 12:45, something I find a bit lazy and rude. And finally, Dev - the one presenter I cannot stand as each year passes. A crap breakfast show plus bland chart coverings make him awful. His presenting style has gone downhill rapidly and personally I feel his time at the station is up. As for the "Afternoon Babes" slogan, that is somewhat pervy and I am nobody's babe when a bloke says it to me!
  12. It does now I've edited it. Bringing voiceovers from 2012 isn't weird. It's something that hasn't been done before on radio to my knowledge, but something that IS happening and being incorporated into new jingles. As I originally said, it's a clever and creative combination. I also said it's a risk that could go either way, so it will either be accepted or criticised by the likes of you. Time to stop being in denial and accept this is the way they're going with things. Brand new and unheard content isn't always successful and the way forward, clearly the case here.
  13. I got the wrong date, but I'm still right on the Newsbeat bit. This is the video with the old voiceovers that being used again in newer jingles:
  14. Explain to me why the video was only uploaded to YouTube by PJ on 4th July 2016 then. And Newsbeat using an old voiceover wasn't an error, it's because it's being phased in.
  15. Did you click on the links I provided? The video you linked to shows jingles that are in use, yes, but this video is using the old voiceovers - ignore the music in it and listen carefully.
  16. I keep hearing the newer voiceovers being used within the - they're definitely creative. But lately it has become apparent that Pure Jingles have: Possibly run out of ideas for completely rebranding the station and giving it a brand new sound. Kept previously-used voiceovers (pre-September 2014) on file and not just binned them - good to know. Introduced the jingles in "batches" and released them, whilst they create more and then release them at a later date. Why do I think this? Allow me to elaborate on my points from above... In point 3, I have speculated the point of a possible "create >> release >> create more >> release" rhythm that is ongoing - this could explain the slow rate the jingles have been released at...? In point 1, I have speculated about completely rebranding the station. I speculate that they may have possibly run out of ideas on a complete rebrand. Who knows? This is where point 2 comes into play, as maybe it was agreed between PJ and BBC R1 not to completely write a new package, but to instead incorporate old previously used voiceovers into new and current jingles? "Your evidence?" I hear you ask. Certainly... Listen to today's lunchtime Newsbeat - scroll to 08:15 and listen to the female "BBC". Next, listen to this imagine demo from 2012 on Youtube. Hear a similarity? It's the old female voice from the previous "era" creeping into the modern Newsbeat. Another example is this section of a video on YouTube of the current imaging demos for the summer. "This is BBC Radio 1" is heard, the "This is" half is the female voice used on the Newsbeat jingle from April 2012 to September 2014, and the male voice says the "BBC Radio 1" part. If you fancy playing detective, you can hear both packages on YouTube here: 2012 imaging - Summer 2016 jingles using non-sung vocals What is clear here that Radio 1 and Pure Jingles are moving forward with mixing new jingles into current and old voiceovers - a clever and creative combination whilst being rest assured our old voiceovers are still in archive somwhere and not just binned and never heard again. What isn't clear is whether it has been done in this way because of a lack of ideas, or whether it was done because Radio 1 wanted to go this route rather than a complete rebrand. That's something that could be argued out for a long time. Mixing new and current jingles with old and new voiceovers is a risk - it could go either way. I like the current jingles that have been on air since 2014, in my view they are better than the previous set used up until then (although I didn't think that before). I like the pre-2014 set too, and to hear them on YouTube etc nearly 2 years after they were taken off air makes them sound old and a tad dated. My plea here is not to completely rebrand the station, but to mash it up a bit and introduce these new jingles with old voiceovers. A bit of old and new could work here. The pre-2014 voiceovers are a familiar general voice of R1, as opposed to the 2014 voiceovers with the accents.
  17. Apart from this morning, Scott Mills has been doing the Breakfast Show all this week, and also Christmas Day. I've noticed that the opener of the shows music has now reverted back to the old jingle with the "This is - the Radio 1 Breakfast Show, with Scott Mills" male and female voices. This was the one used between September 2012 and about July 2015 when Scott covered the show. Radio 1 finally updated a tweaked version of the main Grimmy jingles during the summer, and Scott's jingle is now a cut version of the new girls voice over the jingle. Whereas the older ones are better in my opinion, the new ones do work well to bring it inline with the 2014 branding of the station. However, I cannot understand why they keep reverting between old and new jingles when Scott covers, surely the old ones would've been deleted, preventing them from being used? It's been a while since we heard the old ones, bearing in mind.
  18. Yesterday's lunchtime edition of Newsbeat featured a report in the first 7 minutes about the Syria air strike vote. A couple of people were interviewed with some Newsbeat themed music playing in the background, it was quite slow and very similar to the sports bed. Is there any way of obtaining a download of this? I'm also looking for downloads of the whole Newsbeat 2015 package which would include various pieces of music. Can anyone help please? : Thanks.
  19. The new chart show jingles are fantastic. A fabulous new sound. Even if the chart hadn't moved to Friday's the chart show jingles did need updating. A few weeks in and the new chart show is definitely better on a Friday.
  20. Oh dear...these are awful and cheesy. The breakfast show is about to be ruined! The current ones are fine, I can cope with minor tweaks like voiceovers which they changed recently, but this is too much. Grimmy is back on Monday the 23rd. I fear we will hear these new themes then. Not very Wise from WB.
  21. The constant criticism of Radio 1 really does piss me off generally (not forum members). They do inform, educate and entertain. The 15-29 target audience is very ambitious and something they'll struggle to get a grip on, unfortunately we have here a station that aims at the young generation AND plays chart music. It's s bit of a clash! I think many are out of touch with the schedule changes they've implemented, especially after Annie took over from Zane and when the weekday 10-midnight show finished. Weekday evenings on the station from 9pm are varied and it's good now. Also, this government vs BBC war keeps going on. Pathetic! Pick on ITV for a change.
  22. I can't say what will happen by 2017 but if Grimmy isn't doing the breakfast show then I don't know who will be. Long term I'd like to see Scott take over, but he's sakd in the past he doesn't want to do it. With that said, Scott is better off doing afternoons and staying where he is. Although he's even doubting himself how much longer he will be on the station, I hope he doesn't leave anytime soon though. He IS Radio 1. How long Clara will last is anyone's guess. She's rather dull. I personally believe the wrong girl took over from Fearne, Alice Levine should've got it, and I would like to see her get it in the future. Although she'd probably give up her 1-4 weekend slot.
  23. I don't mind Clara's show but I definitely preferred Fearne's. I get vibes that Clara is a little lazy with certain things and her wording of certain things, and also her enthusiasm could be higher. The best example I can give of this is when she finishes and hands to the 12:45 Newsbeat bulletin. Fearne used to make it clear that she's back tomorrow, it's 12:45 and time for Newsbeat, whereas Clara just says it's 12:45 and here's Newsbeat - no goodbye or thanks for listening and informing us she's back tomorrow. I sometimes think, "Manners...?" Clara needs to realise she's now on a national station, and not an online-only station like 1Xtra.
  24. These may have been previously requested, but on this mornings show at 8:10am we had the orchestral theme music for the show. Grimmy rarely plays this and Scott uses it more when he sits in. Anyone know where I can get a copy please? Listen to it from today's show on iPlayer. Scroll to 1 hour 40 minutes in.
