Unofficial Mills FAQ: Scott Mills and the site in 2006

This is the Unofficial Mills FAQ as it stood in 2006, kept as part of our archive. Show times, team members and contact details have all changed since.

Scott’s life

When was Scott born?

Scott was born on 28 March 1974 in Southampton.

Is Scott gay?

Yes. Scott came out publicly in April 2001 in an interview with The Guardian, saying it was better to manage it himself than be forced into it by the tabloids. He’s comfortable with it, and you’ll often hear him joking about it on air.

On air

When is Scott on the air?

Scott presents every weekday from 4pm to 7pm on BBC Radio 1, finishing at 5.45pm on Fridays. Radio 1 broadcasts on 97–99 FM, DAB digital radio, digital TV and online – and on Sirius satellite radio in the US and Canada.

Who else works with Scott and Chappers?

Scott and Chappers are joined by Laura, Dan and Emlyn, as well as the Newsbeat team. Together they make The Scott Mills Show.

When else is Chappers on the air?

Chappers often broadcasts with Comedy Dave as the double act Chappers and Dave. They fill in for weekend DJs and over the holidays, and gig together at universities and clubs.

Does Scott have a TV show?

No, but he’s made plenty of TV appearances, including Most Haunted, Top of the Pops, Reverse-A-Word and the now-defunct satellite channel Play UK. He also often appears on backstage shows such as The Xtra Factor and Big Brother’s Little Brother.

How long has Scott worked at Radio 1?

Scott joined Radio 1 in 1998, hosting the Early Breakfast Show. Before that he worked at Power FM, GWR FM, Key 103 and Heart FM.

I want to go to a Scott Mills gig – where are the dates?

Scott and his management don’t publish gig dates in one place. The best thing to do is contact the university or club near you – or keep listening, as he might drop a hint.

Who makes the show’s jingles?

The jingles are made by Music 4 (who also make the Chris Moyles jingles) and Wise Buddah, as well as in-house at Radio 1. They aren’t usually available to download.

Does the show have a podcast?

Yes – the best bits of Scott’s show are available daily from Radio 1 online.

Can I have a request?

Not from this website. Radio 1 tends not to take requests, except during Your Call.

The website

Do Scott and the team visit Unofficial Mills?

Yes. Unofficial Mills is regularly visited by BBC staff, and Scott often checks out the website and message board. It’s also visited by people working on the Chappers and Dave show.

Which Radio 1 faces are registered on the forum?

Members include Scott Mills, Laura, Laura’s sister Mary, former team member Dan, Radio 1’s Chris, and Bouncer from Radio 1 online.

Is the site owner Scott Mills or one of his team?

Certainly not. The website is run by Jono Read, who’s just a huge fan of the show. The reviews and show clips are supplied by regular visitors, and none of it is part of Radio 1.

When is that clip going to be on the website?

The best way to find out is to ask on the message board. Clips are generally updated every three to four weeks, and requests are usually fulfilled within a few days.
