Scott Mills Backstage at the BRIT Awards
Today's show is introduced by our trial reviewer, but had to go somewhere, so Jono takes over…
Alllrriiight TRREACLEE!!!!! (Just had to start that way right???)
So iiiits only bley Wednesday – Brit Award night!!!! And better still – tomorrows Thursday – so only one day after that before its only bley Frrridayyy!!!!
Alot of treats from the Brit jukebox as Scott + the team are backstage at The Brits 2006 in Earls Court, and some classic tracks to as part of the 3 in a row to kick start the show.
Show starts as usual with Chappers being the only one to get sniffed by a sniffer dog on the way in (maybe not so usual but it wouldn’t be the strangest thing to happen to him). We’re treated today some more with the fantastic Edith who’s hanging in the wings. So looks like we’re set for another top show.
So, backstage – all rehearsals are over, and before the big show later this evening, it’s the calm before the storm and it’s quiet. Maybe too quiet. And even though he vowed just two days ago to be nice to everyone, obviously its not going to last as Scott sets about to liven things up and what a way to do it, but to tell all the popstars that possibly the nicest person in THE WORLD ever, Katie Melua is slagging them off. Now over to Jono who's closer to the action.
I certainly am, in the respect that I'm 100 miles from London whereas our friend Luke isn't. Ah well, on we go with the review.
Scott got to interview KT Tunstall in her dressing room. She thought Kanye West had something really bizarre and Diva like in his dressing room. Scott was surprised KT had dancers on her act, and she said she was trying to 'keep it real'. KT suggested Scott changed all the door signs away, and Scott tried to tell KT that Katie Melua had said she was overrated. Scott spoke about the meals, and the wine, but Chappers wasn't happy – he's going to be watching from the balcony. He's got the bronze balcony whereas Scott has a 'gold' table. Scott's hoping Barry Scott will be there tonight.
Edith Bowman was out on the red carpet, but couldn't convince the Kaiser Chiefs about Katie Melua. Early spottings included Debbie Harry and Kelly Clarkson. She also caught up with Paris Hilton and Kanye West. Paris told us 'music's a big part of my life' many times. Where's the logic? She's going to be doing reggae and some hip-hop soon. Jo Whiley also popped in to the studio looking fabulous.
Laura's Diary
Mary was back on the air and in bed. Today's extract was from the 30th September 1997. Today Laura felt bad; she'd just got off with Alan (a flat mate). The boys had decided she wanted to get to know her a bit better, and started drinking and they put all the drinks in to a bucket. She couldn't come round to telling Ben. Dave said it was alright as it's a student sort of thing, but Laura says she managed to stop things before it got out of hand.
Chappers: "There's a first for you"
She said she enjoyed it, and she was tempted to go back and see him. Alan apparently gave her what she needed at the time. All this just before she was supposed to be going back to York for Ben's birthday, but she thinks he won't find out. The lesbians weren't at the laundry today, and she'd left a sock in her whites so all her underwear was grey. And that's how we left it…
By 6.10pm Katie Melua's people had been on to Scott and he'd a ticking off and has been told he's been childish. Scott made an apology on the air to Katie and said she was a really nice girl. Whoops, sounds like that's the end of the stirring. And just before the end of the show Chappers was annoyed to find out that jeans have been banned at the BRITs this year.
