30 November 2016: The Whooovent Calendar opens its first door

Adele’s online queue causes fury

Listeners spend hours in an online queue for Adele tickets, only to see the concerts sell out or their payment page refresh at the decisive moment. Scott threatens a temporary protest against playing Adele, although he accepts that the chaos is a consequence of her popularity rather than anything she has done.

The waiting extends beyond music. Medical student Matt has refreshed a page since 10 in the morning for examination results that still have not appeared, leading Scott to propose a deadline for institutions that impose strict deadlines on everybody else.

A homemade calendar becomes a feature

Mark from Bournemouth receives an expensive Hotel Chocolat advent calendar from his sister but does not want to buy one in return. Instead, he creates two printed sheets with a recognisable but slightly forgotten person or object behind every cut-out door.

His selections include Thunderpops, Ali G saying “talk to the hand” and another particularly strong choice for Christmas Eve. Scott initially doubts that this compares favourably with luxury chocolate, then realises it can become the programme’s Whooovent Calendar. From 1 December, they will open one door and deliver a daily Whooo.

The Google Game smells unusual

The Google Game begins with “Is it weird to smell…”, prompting admissions about damp clothes, new tennis balls and other oddly satisfying scents. As usual, the conversation reveals far more about Scott and Chris than the search suggestions do.

The programme also confirms that Relationship Transfer Deadline Day is Friday 9 December, after which couples must remain together until January. Matt Edmondson plays Real or No Real, correctly accepting a Canadian police warning that Christmas offenders may be made to listen to Nickelback and discussing research claiming millennials commonly date six people at once.
