Another BBC opportunity emerges
Chris’s Celebrity Mastermind appearance, with Scott as his specialist subject, is still awaiting its Christmas broadcast when another booking arrives. This time Scott and Chris can take part together in Glasgow on a returning programme involving robots.
They initially try not to name it, but the clues and conversation with Sam McTrusty make the answer obvious: they are filming Robot Wars. The sleeper train back to London is almost as exciting to Scott as operating the machine.
Sam produces another soaking
Sam returns for his second Innuendo Bingo and listeners move meetings to watch. Clips cover a 400-year-old oak producing marvellous boners, George Clooney searching for a true Scottish wildcat, Sir Cliff Richard wanting to wake inside Elvis Presley and a jockey riding Colin’s Sister.
Sam sprays with the same commitment that made his first appearance memorable. Chris appears to aim repeatedly towards the crotch, while Scott later revisits old Twin Atlantic songs and predicts that several will inevitably appear in future rounds of Bangers.
The inbox game escalates rapidly
Scott is horrified to discover 10,000 unread messages on Chris’s phone. They turn the number into a higher-or-lower game, beginning with a listener who has 600,000 messages in an abandoned MSN account before moving to active inboxes containing thousands.
A law and psychology student has 17,745, a highly organised personal assistant has none, and a manager responsible for 50 people somehow has 19,000. Even Kristian Nairn, known as Hodor, supplies a screenshot showing 16,361. Chris’s total stops looking exceptional, but not remotely acceptable.
