22 September 2016: Chris dismantles a plum tart in the poshest Secret Bake Off

Helen Skelton returns to Bingo

Helen Skelton removes her watch and joins Chris for an exceptionally wet Innuendo Bingo. The clips cover Rio’s discoloured swimming pool, Val’s wetter mixture on The Great British Bake Off, the wording of “The Owl and the Pussy-cat” and an unfortunate choice in The Chase.

Helen recalls taking the highest offer during her own appearance on The Chase, despite the audience wanting caution. She survives the clips with the same competitive approach, while Scott prematurely promotes her to Dame Helen.

Hands enter the plum tart

Chris undertakes the most upmarket Secret Bake Off yet at a French-style café used by suited businesspeople. After inspecting pistachio cake, salted caramel and other expensive-looking choices, he orders a plum tart and is instructed by Scott to abandon cutlery.

At the counter, Chris removes the layers with his fingers, handles the plums and slides into the sticky filling. He praises the solid bottom and ganache, repeats his stock complaint that alcohol has killed the flavour and announces the silent server as Star Baker. The man remains impeccably polite but looks devastated, while another employee comes over to inspect the scene. Chris leaves the tart behind and wonders whether he can ever return to collect it.

Greg receives a call-up

Greg James plays Real or No Real and joins an awkward farewell to producer Will, who is moving to the Breakfast show. Scott and Chris cannot look at Will while expressing affection and attempt to postpone the necessary hug.

Greg learns that City of Glasgow College really does offer training in YouTube and vlogging. He and Scott agree that successful videos can consist of little more than opening soap, whereas Scott’s own beauty-vlogging experiment failed despite recruiting Tyler Oakley and Nicole Scherzinger.
