19 April 2016: First Dates brings restaurant romance to Innuendo Bingo

Fred and CiCi arrive

The 50th episode of First Dates brought maître d’ Fred Sirieix and waitress CiCi Coleman to Radio 1. Scott remembered the programme’s early days, while listeners described wanting Fred to deliver a motivational speech every morning.

Fred embraced the attention and joined CiCi for a themed Innuendo Bingo. The clips included material from the restaurant itself, giving its staff the unusual experience of being soaked by their own programme. Fred largely observed and encouraged, while CiCi handled the direct contest with Chris and left him facing another Breakfast-time drenching.

Dissertation hell becomes Library Tennis

Gabby and Johnny played Library Tennis at the University of Exeter. Both were deep into dissertations, making a few minutes of progressively louder grunting feel like a welcome interruption.

The match became the loudest yet. Johnny’s final effort defeated Gabby and produced an especially effective slow-motion montage, while listeners who had just heard the Big Weekend line-up enjoyed having Exeter return to the programme for a very different reason.

Yesterday’s promises

Scott and Chris reviewed the commitments created during the Big Weekend announcement. Marcus Mumford expected a backstage football match, Ryan Tedder was due a waterproof shower notebook, and Nick Jonas needed the postcode for his maps.

They were beginning to realise that friendly lines in celebrity interviews had become genuine tasks. Battle of the Bangers and Real or No Real continued around the growing list, while preparations began for the Queen’s 90th birthday later in the week.
