Better trumpet, same confidence
After one evening with the trumpet, Chris could play more of the Breakfast theme and believed the Royal Albert Hall was now a distant but realistic destination. Scott praised the improvement while reminding him that the immediate goal was merely to complete the high notes and eventually attempt Cheerleader.
The instrument was not ideal for everybody listening shortly after six in the morning, but Chris regarded every request to stop as evidence that people doubted a developing artist.
“I’m 14 carat”
Greg James had noticed that the opening of Selena Gomez’s Good for You sounded like “I’m farting carrots”. Once Scott and Chris heard the alternative, they could no longer remove it from the song.
Scott promised to obtain the definitive answer and actually connected Selena. They explained their habit of maintaining eye contact throughout the deliberately sensual record, then Scott nervously asked whether its first line really concerned carrots.
Selena laughed and confirmed that she sang “I’m 14 carat”, comparing herself with a diamond. She accepted that their accents made the mistaken version possible and joked that “farting carrots” might itself become viral. She also discussed the more mature direction of the album Revival and contacting ASAP Rocky through their teams before texting him about the collaboration.
The transcript replaces Selena’s name with Tyson Fury throughout the conversation, but the voice, album, lyrics and answers make the guest unambiguous.
Jack returns as a Teen Hero
The programme opened nominations for Radio 1’s 2015 Teen Heroes and caught up with Jack, one of the previous year’s winners. After experiencing serious bullying, he had become an anti-bullying ambassador and used the award to speak publicly and encourage other young people.
Jack remembered overcoming his nerves when the Teen Awards audience cheered his name. The recognition gave him confidence that his work mattered and introduced him to public figures who wanted to support the charity. He urged listeners to nominate teenagers who acted selflessly but might regard their own achievements as ordinary.
Instant Dragons’ Den returned with another rapid call to Deborah Meaden, before Scott and Chris closed the first Breakfast week with Selena’s corrected lyric finally fixed in their heads, at least until the record played again.
