12 May 2015: Scott’s hotel drops a sausage into the toilet

Live from the Academy

Scott and Chris broadcast from Radio 1’s Academy in Norwich after an eventful train journey. Scott had slept, thrashed around and apparently driven nearby passengers away, although he had previously believed that behaviour was confined to flights.

The Academy offered sessions on careers in music, radio, television and film. Chris became captivated by its 3D printers and arranged for one to make an aubergine emoji for Greg James, watching the object gradually emerge from its feet upwards.

Leona leads a mass Bingo

Leona Lewis joined Innuendo Bingo in front of a live audience. Around 20 participants sat in ponchos, goggles and waterproof clothing, while Leona received a small poncho and an apparently endless supply of water from a box.

The clips included Shirley Williams discussing how difficult it was for a new politician to get a word in, Victorian butter-making, Homes Under the Hammer and a local-radio message about somebody perched on a gentleman’s log. A single spray often triggered the whole group, turning the carefully arranged game into a chain reaction.

Water travelled beyond Leona and Chris into the audience, cups had to be repeatedly refilled and Scott decided the proposed Innuendo Bingo arena tour had moved a little closer to reality.

Mr Salamander’s requirements

Scott noticed that employees at their hotel had treated him with unusual caution. Chris admitted calling ahead as “Mr Dinesh”, a representative for the extremely important “Mr Salamander”, before eventually revealing Scott’s real identity.

He asked about a presidential suite, minibar, butler and late-opening bar. His main concern was whether people outside could hear the Salamander using the bathroom, so he requested a practical sound test involving a leftover breakfast sausage.

The receptionist placed Chris on hold, took a pork sausage to the room and dropped it into the toilet while a manager stood outside. She returned to confirm that he had heard nothing, that the sausage had sunk and that Scott could use the bathroom without embarrassment.

Nick and Greg play the games

Nick Grimshaw joined Real or No Real for claims including Leona’s songs and the removal of Zane Lowe’s verified Twitter tick. Greg then received the day’s 3D-printed aubergine as a permanent Academy souvenir.

The hotel call remained the programme’s most troubling creation. Scott could only wonder whether the sausage he had found in his room the previous night had been fresh hospitality or the object recovered from the toilet test.
