25 March 2015: Bamboleo turns up in Toy Story 3

Everybody has the John Legends

Stacey Solomon’s Bingo phrase had spread overnight. Listeners reported “a touch of the old John Legends” whenever they had a sore throat or cough, despite it being a description nobody had used before Tuesday.

Scott and Chris repeatedly replayed Fearne Cotton’s original clip and Stacey’s reaction. The phrase already sounded established enough to require no explanation, which encouraged them to diagnose every croaky voice in the building.

Laura’s long-distance evening

Laura lived in Yorkshire while her boyfriend was in North Carolina. They maintained the relationship with lengthy Skype sessions, shared meals and ordinary evenings conducted across the time difference.

She suggested Scott should experience a similar online date. There was little point choosing Chris because they lived close enough to meet in person and already spent most days together. Scott therefore needed a distant celebrity willing to leave a laptop open for an evening.

Suggestions ranged from Pixie Lott and Peter Andre to Eamonn Holmes, Taylor Swift and James Corden. Scott believed he had found somebody more plausible and promised further developments later in the week.

The first Bamboleo shirt

A listener had a black T-shirt printed with #BamboleoWednesday and wore it proudly to the shops. He had paid for express delivery to ensure it arrived before the correct day.

Scott regarded the shirt as one of the feature’s greatest achievements. What began as a brief midweek dance now had Wikipedia recognition and unofficial merchandise. Cushions and pub-wide orders were discussed before everybody returned to the more important business of stopping work for “Bamboleo”.

The Gipsy Kings enter Toy Story

Clara Amfo joined Real or No Real. Scott asked whether the Gipsy Kings appeared in Toy Story 3, although neither he nor Clara had watched every film in the series.

The fact was real. When Buzz Lightyear switches into Spanish mode, the group performs a Spanish-language version of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. Scott briefly considered replacing “Bamboleo” with the song on Wednesdays, then decided the existing tradition was too established.

Dermot O’Leary also genuinely stayed with Timbaland while visiting Texas after the pair became friends on a flight. Sinitta really had a long-distance relationship with Brad Pitt in the 1980s, ending because of distance and work pressures.

The facts tied the programme together: a day built around Skype romance and the Gipsy Kings ended by proving that both Brad Pitt and Toy Story had unexpectedly entered the same worlds.
