Rixton take over the show
Rixton co-hosted ahead of the Radio 1 Teen Awards. Scott gave the band notepads and expected them to help with interviews, shout-outs, links and any other part of the programme they had previously watched from the other side of the desk.
Jake Roche requested travel news because it would make him feel like a proper radio presenter. Radio 1 no longer carried conventional traffic reports, so listeners supplied pointless travel: a five-foot teddy bear in a passenger seat, a car full of insects, tractors, sweets and a genuine place called Thong.
Robert Downey Jr meets six interviewers
Robert Downey Jr arrived to discuss The Judge. Scott introduced Chris and all four members of Rixton around one crowded table, then explained the film’s mixture of homecoming drama and courtroom thriller.
The actor discussed his children, the films he might eventually show them and returning from long working days to spend 90 minutes persuading his son to sleep. An Iron Man costume had helped Rixton find their drummer years earlier, which Robert described as synchronistic and left the room briefly struggling with the word.
Rixton then took control. They asked what he had removed from film sets, how he celebrated releases and how show business divided into work and performance. Jake introduced his father Shane Richie and asked whether Robert watched EastEnders. Chris misheard a reference to the character Alfie’s uncle Lionel and briefly believed Lionel Richie was part of Jake’s family.
Loose Women was explained as a British version of The View, leading Robert to observe that he had historically had no problem with loose women. The questions bore little resemblance to a conventional film interview, which was precisely why they worked.
Chris enters the weather forecast
Chris continued campaigning for Scott by entering the BBC Weather studio in green clothing and holding a “Vote Scott” sign. Against the chroma-key map, most of his body disappeared while his face and placard floated over the forecast.
Rixton played Real or No Real. The game revisited Jake’s appearance on television as a five-year-old, when he announced that his dad was funnier than the presenter’s. A recording confirmed the claim and also confirmed that his father was Shane Richie, not the Lionel Richie connection Chris had accidentally invented.
