Crabby returns to Radio 1
Scott’s under-the-sea samba had made him either a crab or a lobster, depending on which part of the costume people noticed. Chris welcomed him back as “Crabby” and regarded the sideways claw movement as the routine’s lasting contribution to dance.
The Radio 1 team filmed Scott emerging from behind a filing cabinet and performing it again. Chris predicted the crab would become the new Gangnam Style, while Scott accepted that being able to laugh at the costume was better than pretending the routine had gone exactly as planned.
Chris had live-tweeted Strictly Come Dancing through the official Radio 1 account and used the reach to support Scott. The arrangement might not survive every weekend, but Scott had progressed and the campaign remained effective.
Judge Rinder delivers his ruling
Judge Rinder returned by telephone to analyse the samba. Scott explained that the white make-up had confused him because real crabs only turned red after cooking, but the wardrobe team had been committed to the full marine look.
Rinder considered the outfit an obvious distraction from the dancing. He acknowledged improved footwork and the presence of genuine samba steps, but concentrated on Scott’s expressions and the comfort his performance might offer viewers who could imagine doing no better themselves.
Chris proposed attending the next Teen Awards dressed in matching crab costumes. Scott offered to obtain the original from Strictly, leaving Chris to find something resembling the Little Mermaid.
Tyler Oakley visits Chris’s spa
Chris had turned his beauty vlogs into an unexpected source of free products. For the latest edition, he recruited major YouTuber Tyler Oakley and arranged a spa day in the Radio 1 office.
Chris repeatedly claimed he had never worn a face mask before. Listeners quickly found older videos proving otherwise, undermining his expertise in the middle of a collaboration with somebody whose interview with Michelle Obama had attracted more views than her appearance with Ellen DeGeneres.
Tyler embraced the nonsense and gave the vlog access to an enormous online audience. Chris’s original attempt to copy a successful format had now become a series strong enough to attract one of its biggest stars.
Greg James played Real or No Real, including claims about an international Strictly being filmed in a circus tent and Tyler’s audience figures. The show also confirmed that Tim Wonnacott and Natalie Lowe would play the next Strictly Come Bingo.
