Judge Rinder plays Real or No Real
Scott and Chris finally spoke to Judge Rinder, whose ITV courtroom programme had become their new daytime obsession. Robert Rinder was on the line from a secret holiday location.
He approached Real or No Real like a case. A claim about Rita Ora nominating former boyfriend Calvin Harris for the Ice Bucket Challenge required Scott and Chris to explain who both people were before the judge could reach a verdict.
Rinder’s brisk dismissals and deliberate shade delighted the pair. Scott had feared being interrogated by him; instead, the feature confirmed that the television manner worked just as well against flimsy celebrity facts.
Nicole Scherzinger visits the White House and the beauty vlog
Nicole Scherzinger arrived with “On the Rocks”, the first song from an album due in October. She had recently visited the White House as a global ambassador for the Special Olympics and met athletes, Barack Obama and Katy Perry.
Scott asked the question he considered most important: had she used the White House toilet? Nicole had, and remembered a portrait of Jackie Kennedy nearby. The paper was good quality, although she had not conducted the detailed inspection Scott wanted.
Lewis Hamilton had accompanied her to the event. Nicole spoke warmly about him and remained mysterious about work planned around Christmas, refusing to give Scott the announcement he was trying to extract.
She then became involved in Chris’s second beauty vlog. After watching his deodorant technique, Nicole advised him to shower in the morning and change his pants. A strangely sensual lesson involving Brussels sprouts completed the video, leaving Scott with footage unlike any conventional beauty tutorial.
The mystery contestant is in the studio
Radio 1 had been given the 08:40 announcement of another Strictly Come Dancing celebrity. Craig Revel Horwood arrived in a glittering shirt, while a BBC One crew and the programme’s production team filled the studio.
Scott and Chris spent the morning pretending to investigate blacked-out cars and early celebrity tweets. Nicole’s presence provided a plausible false lead, despite her previous appearance on the American version.
Craig discussed the nine celebrities already confirmed and the varying levels of likely dance experience. He then revealed the tenth contestant: Scott Mills.
Scott could finally discuss the rehearsals, secrecy and nerves that had been visible throughout the previous weeks. He had moved from quietly taking dance lessons and sending footage of his feet to becoming an official member of the 2014 cast.
Craig discovers Innuendo Bingo
The celebration placed Craig opposite Chris for Innuendo Bingo. He had not watched the game before and encountered Monty Don admiring somebody’s melons almost immediately.
Craig turned towards Scott and warned, “You’ve had it.” Scott realised that soaking a judge weeks before asking him for marks might be a serious strategic mistake, but the clips continued. His Strictly experience had begun with a threat from the toughest member of the panel.
