Sara Cox believes the Big Brother rumour
Chris had tweeted good luck to “a certain radio legend”, added “see you on the outside” and used hashtags including Team Scott and CBB. The carefully vague wording convinced Sara Cox that Scott might genuinely be entering the Celebrity Big Brother house.
Sara left an affectionate voicemail after speaking to Emeli Sandé at the gym. She said Scott would be brilliant and wished him luck, while admitting he would never tell anybody in advance. Scott loved the message and remained at Radio 1.
Taylor Swift calls from Los Angeles
Taylor Swift’s flight delayed the planned interview, leaving Scott sounding, by his own admission, like a needy boyfriend waiting for contact. She eventually called from Los Angeles to discuss “Shake It Off” and 1989.
Taylor described the record as her first official pop album, inspired by the sound of the late 1980s and named for the year she was born. Fans selected through letters, Twitter and Instagram had appeared in the video and kept their involvement secret for two months.
She explained that refusing to be consumed by gossip had become a coping mechanism. Instead of behaving like a permanently aggrieved celebrity, she wanted to live happily in spite of what people said.
Scott also asked about Taylor’s cooking days with Lorde. Taylor said their shared obsession with lyrics and poetry underpinned the friendship. Lorde had claimed not to be good in the kitchen, then started chopping vegetables with the speed of a top chef.
Daniel Radcliffe prepares properly
Daniel Radcliffe arrived having watched Matthew Lewis and Gerard Butler’s Innuendo Bingo videos. Scott contrasted this preparation with guests who agreed without understanding the game and became alarmed only after the first mouthful of water hit them.
Daniel was promoting What If, originally titled The F Word and still known by that name in Canada. He explained that the American ratings board objected even though the phrase avoided saying the swear word itself.
The film placed his character Wallace in love with Chantry, a friend who already had a decent boyfriend. Daniel liked the fact that the existing partner was not written as an obvious villain: the situation was difficult because everybody involved was recognisably human.
He also discussed learning Japanese, internet searches about his private life and the continuing strangeness of being treated as the definitive source on everything connected with Harry Potter.
An island of brilliance
Daniel then faced Chris. The clips included local radio, sport, animals and Charlie Sloth helping his cousin Jack off a horse. Daniel remained enthusiastic as the water spread across the studio.
At the end, he described the appearance as “an island of brilliance” in a month of otherwise repetitive press interviews. Scott immediately suggested putting the quotation on the poster.
