Has Chris cheated on Watford?
Chris abandoned a post-show meeting to watch Arsenal, creating a football loyalty crisis. His actual club was Watford, and Scott wanted to know whether enjoying another team’s match counted as cheating.
Chris insisted there was no betrayal. Watford remained his club; Arsenal were in a different league, the opportunity had simply appeared and he had taken it. Scott and listeners nevertheless turned the situation into relationship language, complete with comparisons between a dependable burger and a tempting steak.
Grimmy had joined in on Twitter and Watford supporters had already complained, leaving Chris defending what should have been an innocent trip to a football match as though he had been caught in an affair.
Scott gets abandoned with a wolf
The meeting Chris skipped had been in a pub, where one of Scott’s friends arrived with an enormous dog that looked distinctly wolf-like. When the owner went to the toilet, Scott found himself apparently responsible for it.
The dog grabbed its own lead and began bouncing around behind him while everybody else in the pub assumed it belonged to Scott. A video captured Scott pretending not to notice as the animal performed what he described as an audition for Britain’s Got Talent.
Chris thought the footage was wonderful. Scott mainly wanted it recorded for history that the wolf was not his.
Fernando discovers The Thread
Chris brought his friend Fernando back into the studio with a grievance about a group of female friends. Even when they were physically together, they seemed to spend the entire time talking through one continuous private group conversation on their phones.
Fernando had become so suspicious of “the thread” that, when one phone was left open, he copied messages out and printed them. The evidence was less explosive than he expected. One conversation involved whether somebody should cook pasta and another friend announcing she would probably have a jacket potato, which was greeted as though she had earned a major treat.
A second exchange analysed an ex named Sean posting a birthday message on somebody’s Facebook wall. The group treated the gesture as calculated emotional warfare; the recipient merely liked the post rather than replying, a decision her friends strongly approved.
Scott thought the whole thing was mundane rather than threatening. Callers confirmed that private group chats were completely normal and often contained exactly that mixture of gossip, dinner and relationship analysis. Fernando left with proof that “The Thread” existed but not that it represented a conspiracy.
Sara Cox signs off from Real or No Real for a while
Sara Cox joined the day’s Real or No Real and announced she would be away from the feature until November. The facts moved through the supposed origins of the common fox and Britain’s escaped green parakeets, giving Scott one last excuse to argue with Sara before her temporary absence.
The show had now reached the end of its final full week of August. Two programmes remained, and Thursday would begin with a problem unusually urgent even by Innuendo Bingo standards: the booked guest had pulled out.
