The high-vis prankster disappears and Chris gets an early Friday feeling
The show returned to Scott’s ongoing problem with the high-vis prankster, the man who had been appearing outside Radio 1 to point out imaginary hazards and generally unsettle him. This time, however, the familiar figure was nowhere to be seen.
Scott was visibly pleased at the possibility that the prank might have ended, even while acknowledging that hoping a builder had finished work in the area was a slightly heartless way of solving it. Chris enjoyed the contradiction: Scott wanted peace, but did not want to sound as though he was celebrating somebody losing a job.
The absence became its own small event. After spending days waiting for another shout from the street or a new made-up problem to be announced, Scott had started to expect the prankster as part of his journey into work.
As Friday arrived, the programme leaned into the relief and silliness of the end of the week. The team treated Scott’s temporary freedom as a triumph, while leaving open the distinct possibility that the man would be back when least wanted.
It was a modest premise, but exactly the sort of recurring real-life nuisance that the show could turn into a running story. Scott’s unease and Chris’s delight at making it worse gave it the required momentum.
