Scott sleeps out for Centrepoint and previews a huge week
Scott was covering for Grimmy on the Breakfast Show and turned up tired after taking part in Centrepoint’s Sleep Out in central London. He had slept outside alongside Sara Cox, Richard Madeley, Chloe Madeley, Rav Wilding and others, then admitted he had not prepared properly for the cold. Without a hat, he had resorted to wrapping spare tracksuit bottoms around his head.
Richard Madeley appeared considerably more experienced. Scott described him arriving with Italian white wine and a range of Scotch eggs, before eventually being asked to keep the noise down because other people were trying to sleep. Sara, by contrast, had seemingly been able to sleep anywhere, and had taken a photograph of Scott in his oversized sleeping bag without him noticing.
Beccy and the rest of the team had doubted Scott would actually make it through the night, so he was particularly pleased to report back from the event. He stressed that the sleep-out had raised money and turned the aftermath into a familiar show story: a cold, a headache and the discovery that a tracksuit-bottom turban was not an obvious look.
Scott then laid out the following week’s guests and outside broadcasts. Tim Minchin was due on Monday, James May on Tuesday, and the trailer-voice artist Red Pepper on Wednesday to help with the Radio 1 film. Thursday would take the show to Manchester for Children in Need Rocks, followed by Angelos Epithemiou on Friday.
The programme was a short but busy bridge between Scott’s breakfast-show cover and the station’s Children in Need week. The Centrepoint night supplied the personal story, while the guest list made clear that the regular show was heading into one of its biggest runs of the month.
