Scott tests his sick voice and asks listeners to help make the Radio 1 film
Scott returned from an Edinburgh weekend with his mum and admitted he had failed to get into Downton Abbey. He had watched an episode without any of the backstory, tweeted a string of snoring noises and then tried to explain the drama as a historical version of The Only Way Is Essex. Halloween gave the team another argument: Scott thought 13 should be the cut-off point for trick-or-treating, while Beccy had heard of adults doing it and a friend who escaped the evening by booking himself into a hotel.
The Radio 1 film was back on Scott’s mind. The project had grown from audience and artist footage captured during May’s Big Weekend in Carlisle, but with four weeks left before the deadline he was still asking listeners to become part of it. His first request was for somebody who could properly use Auto-Tune and turn Lady Gaga’s “enjoy the boob” line into a song for the film.
Scott also enjoyed Kelly Rowland’s X Factor sick call from Los Angeles, particularly the formal voice she used before revealing which act she was sending home. That led him to test his own version. He rang Beccy pretending he felt too ill to present, speaking in a strained voice and asking her to pass the message on.
Beccy was kind on the call, but Chris later rang her as a concerned friend and discovered what she really thought. She said Scott sounded ridiculous and suspected he was trying to get out of work, leaving Scott to accept that his performance had not been remotely convincing. Chris then overplayed his own role by ordering Beccy to inform the “bosses” and “controllers”.
The show rounded out the experiment with Danny Howard Points for listeners who could count Louis Walsh saying “cabaret” in an X Factor clip. Scott then returned to his real voice, while Beccy reported from a country-pub drive with her boyfriend and the programme moved into a packed Innuendo Bingo session for Chris.
