Scott’s TV Burp audition, a clothes-shop misunderstanding and Innuendo Bingo
Scott’s Breakfast Show cover began with a very practical running problem: his nipple guards had finally arrived ahead of a half marathon. The prospect of signing for a delivery of “nip guards” at reception entertained the team, as did the discovery that the order number made it look as though he had bought 150 of them rather than a modest pack.
Earlier, Scott and Chris had gone clothes shopping, where Chris admitted he had no idea what waist or leg size he wore. His proposed solution was to undo his belt and partly drop his trousers on the shop floor to check the label in his current jeans, an idea Scott regarded as far less socially acceptable than Chris did.
The conversation shifted when they heard Harry Hill might be leaving TV Burp. Chris promptly offered himself as a replacement, estimating that he could do the job for £3m a year and claiming he had already prepared by watching television at speed and finding clips. Scott staged a live audition, with Chris supplying heavily improvised links for EastEnders and Motorway Cops.
Chris’s version of You’ve Been Framed! was no more polished. Faced with clips of people falling over, he narrated them in a stream of vague descriptions, to the point that Scott said it sounded like a family party game in which someone was trying to describe a word they were forbidden to say. Chris nevertheless remained convinced he could bring a fresh angle to Saturday-night television.
The programme also returned to Scott’s bizarrely successful call to Harry Styles, framed on air as “Diana Vickers off One Direction”. When a listener wanted to know what brand of pants Harry wore, Scott tried to ring him again and accidentally left an apparent phone number hanging on air. That set up the next day’s Harrygate material, before the team finished with a very wet Innuendo Bingo featuring clips from Richard Madeley, ESPN, Watchdog and Radio 1.
