16 June 2011: Posh farts, wedding gifts and the Amazing Box

Scott opened by revisiting the previous evening’s Innuendo Bingo experiment in a pub. Chris had stood at the bar with beer in his mouth while the team played clips designed to make him laugh, and Scott was delighted that the public setting had made the inevitable spray of drink much more embarrassing. Chris had also been left to clear up afterwards, which Scott felt was only fair.

The programme looked back at Jennifer Lopez’s appearance that week, particularly her habit of filling answers with “you know”. Scott and Beccy replayed enough of the interview to demonstrate the point, then immediately noticed a verbal habit of their own: calling everything “amazing”.

They devised an Amazing Box, modelled on a swear box. Each time somebody used the word, money would go in, with Scott and the presenters expected to pay more than everyone else. Beccy was given the job of making the box, despite Scott pointing out the rule several times while explaining it.

Beccy had also been watching the aftermath of Ascot, where women who had set out looking immaculate in hats and formal clothes were attempting to get home after a long day of drinking. That led naturally into a replay of the show’s song built from the famously tipsy Radio 5 Live golf interview, including the line about champagne in the car park.

Elsewhere, listeners had found an unexpected bodily-noise moment on Radio 4, and the show moved through Kim Kardashian’s wedding list, Newsbeat chat and a Twitter game with Matt Edmondson. It was a busy edition built around the pleasure Scott took in catching supposedly polished broadcasters, celebrities and his own team being faintly ridiculous.
