Scott prepares for the Longest Show Ever

Radio 1’s Comic Relief marathon was underway and Scott was already trying to persuade Chris that it would be easier to go home. Chris refused, determined that the attempt at a record should continue.

The team had been awake for a long time, and Beccy supplied a pair of glasses with printed eyes to make Chris look less exhausted. Scott approved of the practical deception, even if nobody in the room really believed it worked.

The show paused to make a podcast link, which became much harder than expected because Chris, Dave and Scott were increasingly tired. A simple list of guests and activities was enough to make everyone laugh.

Fundraising updates showed the total climbing rapidly. Scott thanked listeners while the studio became more disorganised, an unavoidable consequence of keeping the programme moving through the night.

Games including Word Dissociation and Innuendo Bingo kept the energy up. The charity goal remained the serious point of the event, but the on-air texture was fatigue, bananas, water and the kind of jokes that only seemed funnier after too little sleep.
