Mark Chapman was due to provide the sport at the end of Newsbeat but did not appear.
Scott initially hoped Chappers would run into the studio before the bulletin finished. When that failed, the team tried to improvise.
They mentioned Chelsea being banned from signing players, assumed some cricket was probably taking place and offered the fact that one person had played goalkeeper in school netball.
Another colleague found a live cricket score showing a team on 178 for three.
Chappers eventually arrived while the improvised sports section was under way, allowing the programme to hand the responsibility back to him.
