The big announcement
Scott opened the programme after Radio 2 announced that he would take over the Breakfast Show in January.
Zoe Ball had revealed that she was stepping away from the early alarm call after six years.
Scott described himself as beyond excited and admitted the news still felt unreal.
Listeners immediately asked how somebody used to beginning work at 2pm would cope with a 6.30am start.
Scott said the answer would involve several alarms, including at least two placed on the opposite side of the room.
“Mum, I’m on the news”
The announcement featured in the BBC News bulletin immediately before Scott’s programme.
He jokingly asked his mother to record it.
Listeners remembered following him from features such as Laura’s Diary on Radio 1 and said they would now move from the school-run home journey to breakfast with him.
Scott also recalled saying during Celebrity Race Across the World that he should never be asked to present breakfast.
The Birthday Game: Emma
Emma from Norwich turned 38 and was rehearsing as the March Hare in an Alice in Wonderland pantomime.
She learned lines by recording them and repeatedly listening back.
Emma liked musicals and modern pop from artists such as Olly Murs, Katy Perry and Pink.
Her first spin was the Beach Boys’ Good Vibrations. She rejected it.
The second was Michael Jackson’s Black or White. She rejected that too.
Her compulsory final song was LeAnn Rimes’ Can’t Fight the Moonlight, from Coyote Ugly.
Emma had once used it as her karaoke song and was delighted with the result.
Dear Fearne and 0800 Reverse
Fearne Cotton returned to her teenage correspondence.
The letters included a reference to 0800 Reverse, the collect-call service once advertised heavily to young people.
The feature became another exercise in explaining 1990s technology and language to listeners who had forgotten it or never experienced it.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after one of the most important announcements of his broadcasting career.
