The Fizz need two new members
After Mike Nolan’s departure, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston had searched for two men to join the group formerly known as Bucks Fizz.
Hundreds of applicants sent videos and CVs.
The shortlist performed at Pineapple Studios before six finalists were reduced to four and then to the final two.
Cheryl said vocal harmony, personality and the ability to get along during long periods on the road were essential.
A driving licence and car were also considered extremely useful.
Nick Major joins
The first new member removed a Scott Mills mask and introduced himself as Nick Major from Halifax.
Nick had previously been in Fix, the group formed from runners-up on Popstars: The Rivals.
He described the Fizz as Eurovision royalty and said joining Cheryl and Jay was an honour.
Scott immediately noticed the easy chemistry between them.
Matthew Pateman joins
The second member was Matthew James Pateman from Beckenham.
Matthew had performed with Let Loose and Bad Boys Inc. and also worked in tribute shows, including Wham! and Duran Duran projects.
He confirmed that he would remain in Let Loose while joining the Fizz.
Scott struggled to understand how Matthew would remember which band he was appearing with at each booking.
Matthew said somebody generally pushed him on stage and told him what they were doing.
The Birthday Game
The day’s Birthday Game unfolded while Cheryl and the new Fizz line-up remained part of the programme.
Scott offered three number-one records from 3 October and continued warning contestants not to gamble away a genuinely strong song.
The Music Police
The force revisited the current mystery and tested new listener evidence before the case deadline.
Handover
Scott handed over after one of the programme’s biggest live pop announcements.
