The Fizz need new members
After Mike Nolan announced his departure, The Fizz were looking for two men to join Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston.
Cheryl had suggested candidates should look over 50, remain mobile and preferably have a car and driving licence.
Scott believed Coach Trip favourite Brendan Sheerin might fit the brief.
Brendan calls from España
Brendan was away in “España” when Scott raised the possibility of an audition.
He remembered Making Your Mind Up and showed interest, although he had not yet committed to returning in time.
Scott offered to attend the audition with him and continued campaigning for the unlikely new line-up.
The Birthday Game: Sean
Sean from Derbyshire turned 55 and worked sealing windows, doors and ceilings in new-build homes.
He listened to Radio 2 from before six in the morning until bedtime and strongly recommended the station’s evening programmes.
Sean had seen around 500 live bands despite not attending his first gig until he was 30.
He had recently been to the Y Not Festival and was preparing for a paddleboarding weekend.
His first spin was Atomic Kitten’s version of Eternal Flame. Sean rejected it.
The second was Ne-Yo’s Beautiful Monster. He gambled again despite claiming to be easy to please.
His compulsory final song was Dexys Midnight Runners’ Come On Eileen, number one for four weeks in 1982.
Sean described it as a fantastic party record and was delighted with the result.
Pumpkin spice in August
Scott reacted with horror to reports that pumpkin-spice drinks were already appearing in coffee shops.
Listeners also continued taking Radio 2 abroad through BBC Sounds.
Handover
Scott handed over after trying to arrange Brendan’s return from España for The Fizz audition.
