Scott admitted he loved stretching celebrations but wondered where the line should be drawn.
The Birthday Game: Katie
Katie from Nottingham turned 43 and worked for a company providing the photographs sold after theme-park rides.
She enjoyed live music, lake swimming and box-fit classes and had celebrated at Vicky McClure’s Day Fever daytime disco.
Katie wanted UK garage, old-school R&B or something soulful.
Her first spin was Donny Osmond’s Puppy Love. She rejected it.
The second was Madonna’s Papa Don’t Preach. Katie was tempted but gambled.
Her compulsory final song was Gareth Gates’ Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake).
Her immediate reaction was that the title summed up her decision to reject Madonna.
Will Young’s first Spinterview
Will Young joined Scott in an exercise studio for Radio 2’s first celebrity Spinterview.
He arrived wearing a Spice Girls T-shirt, Girls Aloud hoodie, Mystique shorts and Sugababes socks.
Will chose Jill Scott’s Golden as the warm-up track because he played it every morning after being woken by his dog.
Fitness and theatre
Will said his current exercise included running, kickboxing and resistance bands.
He recommended resistance bands because they were cheap and could be used almost anywhere.
He remembered the physical demands of playing the Emcee in Cabaret and said theatre offered a freedom he loved.
His upcoming tour would be a stripped-back show with only Will and a piano, although he was also interested in returning to bigger productions and eventually performing at Glastonbury.
Pop Idol
Will said he had enjoyed Pop Idol because nobody involved initially understood how significant the programme would become.
He described watching his dream come true in real time.
Before applying, he had told a university friend that there needed to be a competition capable of launching someone like him: openly gay, posh, studying politics and not obviously fitting the record-industry mould of the time.
Will even claimed he had predicted that he would win before posting the application.
Quick-fire cycling
During the high-intensity section, Will chose Who Am I as the one song he would sing forever and named the 400 metres as his favourite Olympic event.
His unusual skill was polishing brass, something he said helped his mental health.
Massive Attack’s Unfinished Sympathy provided the faster cycling track, while D’Angelo’s version of Cruisin’ was used for the cool-down.
Light It Up
Will described his new album Light It Up as Scandinavian pop and said it explored a style he had surprisingly never properly attempted before.
The album was due in August, followed by a UK tour in September.
Handover
Scott handed over after completing the first Spinterview and confirming that both men had survived the exercise bikes.
