The alternatives included early episodes of Gavin & Stacey, a concert from Vienna, Legally Blonde 2, Rocky III, Mamma Mia and, ominously, Titanic.
Antiques Roadshow had been displaced, although Countryfile survived by moving to BBC Two.
Barbershop appreciation
Scott marked National Barbershop Music Appreciation Day.
A caller from a barbershop group explained how the harmonies worked and supplied an England-themed recording originally made for an earlier tournament.
The Birthday Game: Debbie
Debbie from Yorkshire turned 51 while staying in an adults-only hotel in Menorca.
Her party trick was still being able to perform the splits, although her husband worried she would eventually injure herself.
Debbie wanted Coldplay or 1990s music.
Her first spin was Elvis Presley versus JXL with A Little Less Conversation. She rejected it immediately.
The second was Jimmy Nail’s Ain’t No Doubt. Debbie believed something better was coming and gambled again.
Her compulsory final song was Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea with Problem, number one in 2014.
Debbie declared it the best of the three and celebrated finally receiving the upbeat song she wanted.
Michael Ball’s Broadway Bangers
The weekly podcast preview confirmed that Michael Ball’s Radio 2 in the Park set was now official.
Scott had also connected Michael with remix producer Mr Majestic to begin work on a dance version of I Dreamed a Dream.
The Wonder Years
The Friday Wonder Years began in 2005 and moved through successive years with large summer records.
