27 June 2024: Diane lands on Captain Sensible and Christmas appears in June

Hottest jobs

Scott asked listeners which occupations became hardest during hot weather.

Messages came from people working under heat lamps, in kitchens, salons, factories, vehicles and other places where escaping the temperature was difficult.

Christmas preparation

Despite the summer weather, Christmas preparation had already started in some workplaces.

The programme heard from people involved in retail, displays, food production and festive planning months before December.

The Birthday Game: Diane

Diane from Lincoln turned 49.

Her grandchildren Jay and Kiki were leaving for five weeks in Spain and Italy with Diane’s daughter and her partner.

Diane joked that she should have been invited as the free babysitter.

She rejected McFly and continued to the final spin.

Her compulsory song was Captain Sensible’s version of Happy Talk, originally from the musical South Pacific.

Diane was genuinely delighted and expected the office to dance.

Scott also remembered spending a memorable evening in Whitby helping Captain Sensible celebrate his birthday.

The Music Police

David from Inverness’s mystery was replayed.

He believed it came from the 1980s, and Scott tested several suggestions while the force tried to reach a verdict.

Glastonbury

Scott previewed Radio 2’s coverage from Worthy Farm and the heavily promoted Shania Twain “legends” performance.

Handover

Scott handed over after Diane’s cheerful third-spin result.
