21 November 2023: Scott smiles with his teeth and Dean tells a Harry Kane story

Smile with your teeth

Scott explored advice suggesting that people could make their voices sound brighter by smiling properly while speaking.

The idea was to open the muscles around the mouth and smile with both the teeth and eyes.

A vocal coach who had worked on The X Factor and with Lewis Capaldi confirmed that the principle also applied to singing.

Scott tested the difference on air and asked listeners whether the smiling version sounded more resonant or simply unnatural.

The Birthday Game: Dean

Dean from Gloucestershire turned 57 and loved fishing.

Unfortunately, he had lost every photograph proving his catches after forgetting the password to an old Facebook account linked to a phone number he no longer had.

His largest carp had weighed 22lb, leaving listeners to take the claim entirely on trust.

Dean shared his birthday with Goldie Hawn, Carly Rae Jepsen, Björk and Radio 2’s Lisa Tarbuck.

He hoped his partner had arranged a birthday surprise for later in the day.

Elton John and Harry Kane

Dean also told Scott about trying to watch Elton John at a concert while people nearby became excited about Harry Kane.

Dean asked them to be quiet and, when informed that the man was Harry Kane, replied that he did not care whether it was Michael Caine because Elton John was performing.

Harry’s partner reportedly said this happened whenever they went out.

Scott declared that Dean’s story had beaten the other celebrity encounters submitted that afternoon.

Handover

Scott handed over to Sara Cox after continuing the experiment with smiling voices.
