Gary Davies appears in Doc’s workshop
Scott reported back from the Radio 2 Children in Need gala performance of Back to the Future: The Musical.
The vintage Gary Davies photograph delivered by Marty McFly and Doc Brown had been placed inside Doc’s workshop on stage.
During the show, Doc pointed towards photographs of his heroes, including Gary’s 1984 picture.
The reveal earned a large laugh from the audience and completed the programme’s time-travel mission.
Vernon prepares for the ultra-ultramarathon
Vernon Kay and the challenge team travelled towards Leicester before beginning his 115-mile Children in Need route to Bolton.
When Scott tried to speak to him at a service station, producer Patrick admitted that Vernon had temporarily disappeared.
The team suspected he had wandered towards the toilets or bakery.
Patrick also revealed that Vernon had spent much of the coach journey sleeping across the back seats in preparation for the challenge.
The Birthday Game: Sandra
Sandra from Birmingham turned 63 and spent the day reading, listening to Radio 2 and eating a large Ferrero Rocher ball.
As a child, she had appeared in a BBC film called And Teddy Came Too about a school cruise involving more than 1,000 Birmingham pupils.
The team found the original 1973 broadcast details while she was on the telephone.
Sandra liked 1960s music, reggae, early Michael Jackson, Madonna, ELO, Sparks and the Stranglers.
Her first spin was Lisa Stansfield’s All Around the World. Sandra liked it but continued.
The second was Leona Lewis’s Bleeding Love. She rejected it as unsuitable for a birthday.
Her compulsory final song was Dr Hook’s When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman.
Sandra recognised the group’s eye-patched member and was delighted with the final result.
The Music Police breakthrough
Jo in Cornwall’s case had gone cold the previous Thursday.
The force had ruled out George Baker Selection’s Little Green Bag, Gorillaz and Suzanne Vega’s Tom’s Diner.
Over the weekend, singer-songwriter Jessica contacted Scott through social media from New York.
Listeners had alerted her because Jo’s melody resembled her song Nine Inch Heels.
Jessica was confident enough to record a video and repeatedly tag the programme.
Scott brought Jessica and Jo together on the telephone and played the track.
Jo recognised it immediately.
The cold case was declared solved, leaving Jessica thrilled that the programme had rediscovered her song.
Handover
Scott gave the Music Police the rest of the week off while Radio 2 concentrated on Vernon Kay’s challenge.
