Bank-holiday DIY disasters
Scott returned after the bank holiday and asked listeners about simple household jobs they had attempted before wishing they had called a professional.
The topic followed research suggesting many men felt embarrassed when somebody else came into the house to complete practical jobs.
Scott admitted he could not confidently change a tyre and remembered using a nail gun only while supervised during DIY SOS.
Listener stories included a washing-machine installation that flooded an outhouse and other projects that looked much easier in online tutorials than they proved in real life.
Jury Duty
Scott recommended the hidden-camera comedy Jury Duty.
One unsuspecting man believed he was taking part in a documentary about serving on a jury, while everybody else involved — including the other jurors, lawyers and judge — was an actor.
Scott had not yet seen the ending and warned listeners not to spoil the reveal.
The Birthday Game: Mark
Mark from Stourbridge turned 60.
He worked as a self-employed painter and decorator and spent his birthday working outside in the sunshine.
Mark was a committed MotoGP fan and hoped to travel to Austria to watch a race.
He shared his birthday with David Beckham, Dwayne Johnson, Lily Allen and Princess Charlotte.
Mark loved 1980s music and soul.
His first spin was Duran Duran’s The Reflex, number one in 1984. Despite requesting the decade, Mark rejected it.
His second spin was The Beatles’ From Me to You, which had spent seven weeks at number one in 1963.
Mark accepted it because it had been number one when he was born.
Niall Horan
Niall Horan joined Scott ahead of the release of new music and discussed life after One Direction.
He joked about his friendship with Jamie Dornan, describing him as frustratingly handsome despite eating and drinking what he wanted and apparently doing little exercise.
Niall had also been speaking with Lewis Capaldi’s mother while Lewis attempted to learn golf so the pair could play together.
Escaping One Direction fans
Niall remembered the extreme security arrangements during the height of One Direction.
Fans would discover the group’s hotel and remain outside screaming through the night, making sleep almost impossible.
The band repeatedly moved hotels and, on one occasion, were bundled into the back of a bread van to leave without being noticed.
Scott and Niall reflected on how extraordinary those experiences sounded when discussed years later.
Ireland at Eurovision
Niall also discussed Ireland’s Eurovision prospects.
Scott was preparing for Liverpool and asked whether the country that had once dominated the contest could recover its former strength.
The conversation formed part of Radio 2’s growing countdown to the contest.
Handover
