Dogs react to Bear in the Big Blue House
Scott had read that dogs were unusually interested in Bear in the Big Blue House, particularly the moments when Bear sniffed towards the camera.
He played the audio and asked listeners to report what their pets did.
A dachshund called Jumbo pricked up his ears and began sniffing. Wilbur reacted immediately, while a border terrier called Pip stared at the radio, tilted his head from side to side and appeared to smile.
Fergus the shih tzu did nothing at all, leading Scott to wonder whether the effect worked better with the television picture.
Scott repeated the programme title for listeners planning to test the theory at home.
Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance
Scott caught up with Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime show after deciding that staying awake for it was unrealistic at 49.
He had expected a guest appearance after Rihanna teased that she might bring someone with her, but the surprise was the announcement of her pregnancy.
Scott enjoyed the performance but was disappointed that neither Pon de Replay nor Take a Bow appeared during the 13-minute set.
He also initially misunderstood the large number of owl pictures online before realising people were making “superb owl” jokes.
The Birthday Game: Claire
Claire from Teesside turned 45 and spent the day working after celebrating with family over the weekend.
Her 17-year-old son boxed at a local club and kept the family busy with training and competitions.
Claire shared her birthday with Robbie Williams, Peter Gabriel and Jerry Springer.
She described the 1980s as her favourite musical era but said she listened to a broad range of music.
Her first Birthday Game spin was Leo Sayer’s When I Need You, number one in 1977. Claire liked it but wanted something livelier.
The second was Lukas Graham’s 7 Years, number one in 2016. She rejected that too.
Her compulsory final spin was Oasis’s Go Let It Out, number one on her birthday in 2000.
Claire immediately called it perfect, completing a successful three-spin gamble.
S Club speculation
Jo O’Meara, Rachel Stevens and Tina Barrett appeared together on the BRIT Awards red carpet and refused to confirm whether new music was coming.
They instead directed people towards that evening’s The One Show, where all seven members were expected to appear.
Scott regarded the reunion as one of pop’s worst-kept secrets and promised an S Club party the following afternoon.
The Music Police
Scott formally closed Paula’s case after listeners identified her song as the River Detectives’ You Don’t Know a Thing About Love.
The 1989 track had reached only number 89, making the successful identification particularly impressive.
A new case came from Craig near Glasgow.
Craig remembered an instrumental melody played in a local Italian restaurant but could offer only a short hummed phrase.
Suggestions began arriving immediately, although Scott rejected All Rise by Blue and admitted the evidence was unusually limited.
The case remained open for Thursday’s programme.

Scott handed over to Sara Cox after promising Melanie C and a major S Club reunion show the following afternoon.
