One woman regularly watched ahead while her husband was at work, then repeated the episodes with him and allowed him to think she had successfully predicted the ending.
Leanne from Leeds admitted she did the same whenever her husband worked away during the week.
Another listener had tried to join an office conversation about the current series of The Apprentice, only to discover they had accidentally been watching the 2022 series.
The Jo Whiley airport campaign
Scott revisited his old campaign to have Newquay Airport named after Jo Whiley.
Jo remembered a plaque in the departure lounge and recalled that a Jet2 Boeing 737 had genuinely carried her name.
The aircraft once flew over her while she was on holiday in Ibiza.
Newquay Airport’s Andrew suggested that Jo’s name could potentially be incorporated into a future terminal redevelopment.
Jo retaliated by attempting to have a chimpanzee at Chester Zoo named after Scott, while a paint company offered a shade of yellow inspired by his tan.
Will and Rosie in Rochester offered to rename their yellow bathroom after him if he unveiled a plaque. Scott declined.
A member of Jet2 cabin crew later confirmed that the Jo Whiley aircraft had operated for 27 years before being scrapped in 2015.
The Birthday Game: Ali
Ali was celebrating with a long lunch for nine friends followed by a visit to the pub.
She shared her birthday with Bill Bailey, Liam Hemsworth, Orlando Bloom, Ruth Wilson, Natalia Dyer and Patrick Dempsey.
Her first spin was The New Seekers’ You Won’t Find Another Fool Like Me, number one in 1974. She rejected it.
The second was Rednex’s Cotton Eye Joe.
It was the song’s second appearance on the Birthday Game that week and its second rejection.
Ali accepted the compulsory third spin and received Aaliyah’s More Than a Woman, the singer’s only UK number one.
She called it the best of the three, while Scott regarded it as a strong result.
The Wonder Years
The Friday Wonder Years moved from 1987 to 1994.
A technical failure briefly prevented Scott from playing several prepared tracks, reproducing one of his recurring radio nightmares in which none of the equipment works.
He found an alternative way to start the songs and continued the feature.
