Scott’s Weakest Link performance
Scott revisited his appearance on a celebrity edition of The Weakest Link.
The programme team had collected every time he shouted “bank”, revealing that he repeatedly banked before any money had entered the prize pot.
Cheryl Baker called to discuss his performance and pointed out that he appeared to have only one correct answer before being voted off.
Scott blamed lingering tiredness from the TreadMills challenge, which had been recorded shortly before the quiz.
He said contestants were repeatedly told not to forget to bank, so he followed the instruction too enthusiastically.
A compilation played him shouting “bank” over and over before Romesh Ranganathan eliminated him with four votes.
Scott also disliked the staged walk of shame contestants were asked to perform after leaving the game.
Are you bad at games?
Scott admitted he had rarely played board or card games while growing up.
He still did not understand chess or rummy and struggled with a game called Fives because it involved quickly calculating multiples of five.
Listeners shared the games they could not follow.
Emma said she was useless at Cluedo, while one listener calling themselves Scruff Tidy said they had actually won The Weakest Link in 2007 and signed their message “the strongest link”.
Tia Kofi confronts Scott
Tia Kofi called the programme to ask why Scott had voted her off The Weakest Link.
“I thought we were friends,” she told him, referring to nights they had spent together.
Scott apologised but pointed out that two other contestants had voted for her as well.
The programme replayed Tia’s exit interview, in which she said she was “absolutely fuming” and declared Rylan her favourite Eurovision commentator instead.
Scott advised listeners that there were many better things to watch on BBC iPlayer.
The Birthday Game: Robin
Robin from Worcester turned 34.
For his 25th birthday, he had asked guests to dress as the artist who was number one when they were born. Robin went as late-1980s Kylie Minogue, while his best friend dressed as Jason Donovan.
He shared his birthday with Rowan Atkinson, Eddie Redmayne, Alex Turner and Nigella Lawson.
His first spin was Jackie Wilson’s Reet Petite, which had also appeared as an unused option the previous day. Robin rejected it.
His second was Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself. Robin liked it but chose to gamble again.
The final compulsory spin was Can We Fix It? by Bob the Builder.
Robin immediately regretted passing on Jackie Wilson.
Scott played the track in full and discovered that it contained considerably more lyrics than the familiar chorus.
Listeners reacted strongly. One asked whether it was a joke and demanded that the song be switched off, while another described it as their favourite Birthday Game result.
Robin later texted to apologise to the entire audience.
The Wonder Years
The first Wonder Years of 2023 celebrated years ending in three, beginning with 1993.
The selection included records that reminded listeners of early-1990s clubs, school discos and MTV.
Scott promised to investigate why certain towns and factories had distinctive smells during the following week.
Handover
OJ Borg was sitting in for Sara Cox.
Scott handed over after saying the programme had redeemed itself following Bob the Builder by playing Kelly Clarkson.
