Joe Wicks prepares Scott
Joe Wicks joined Scott before the Great Scott TreadMills Challenge.
Joe had completed 24 hours of exercise for Children in Need in 2020 and understood the importance of pacing, food, hydration and protecting the feet.
He guided Scott through a workout and stressed that the challenge was about continuing rather than trying to maintain an impressive speed.
Scott was concerned that excitement and adrenaline would make him begin too quickly. Joe advised him to preserve energy for the difficult overnight hours.
Tony Blackburn plays the Birthday Game
Tony Blackburn joined the programme as the UK singles chart celebrated its 70th birthday.
Scott invited him to play the Birthday Game, although Tony joked that when he was born “they hadn’t invented music”.
The feature allowed Tony to reflect on records from different eras and on a broadcasting career closely tied to the chart.
Scott treated him as both a contestant and an authority, asking whether the songs and chart facts had been remembered correctly.
Seventy years of the chart
Tony discussed the development of the singles chart and its importance to radio.
The programme revisited the experience of waiting to discover the new number one and the role presenters played in turning chart positions into shared national moments.
Handover
Scott handed over with fewer than 48 hours remaining before the challenge began.
