5 April 2024: Vicky gambles to Run-DMC and Radio 2 searches for the ultimate ABBA song

A formal apology to Mr Worldwide

Scott returned to the previous afternoon’s discovery that Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull’s On the Floor had been filed inside Elaine Paige’s folder.

He apologised to Pitbull and his fans for the confusion.

The incident became part of a wider celebration of Mr 305’s many names, collaborations and ability to appear unexpectedly on records.

The ultimate ABBA song

Radio 2 launched its search for the nation’s favourite ABBA track ahead of the 50th anniversary of the group’s Eurovision victory in Brighton.

The shortlist included the band’s UK top-40 hits and additional classics chosen by ABBA experts.

Listeners could cast up to five votes before Gary Davies counted down the results.

Scott struggled to imagine narrowing the catalogue down and questioned why he had not been invited onto the expert panel.

The Birthday Game: Vicky

Vicky from Newcastle celebrated with a meal alongside her friend Diane, who had nominated her for the game.

She strongly rejected the possibility of an 1980s novelty record and feared Diane would criticise any poor choice over dinner.

Her first spin was Nilsson’s Without You, number one in 1972.

Vicky found it too depressing and rejected it almost immediately.

The second was Estelle featuring Kanye West with American Boy, number one in 2008.

She liked it but decided to join the Three Spin Club.

Her compulsory final song was Jason Nevins’ remix of Run-DMC’s It’s Like That, number one in 1998.

Vicky was delighted and insisted that the gamble had been correct.

She accepted Scott’s sustainable signed birthday card.

Eurovision at 50

Scott also looked ahead to BBC coverage marking ABBA’s 1974 victory, including archive programmes and the complete contest from Brighton.

Handover

Scott handed over after urging listeners to vote for their ultimate ABBA song.
