The Great Glasto Honk
Scott spoke to members of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show team travelling towards Glastonbury.
Richie Anderson was driving, producer James was navigating and Mike Williams had appointed himself head of snacks.
Scott asked them to honk the horn and listen for other Radio 2 listeners responding.
The first attempt produced almost complete silence.
A second attempt with Hannah and Ben, stuck in slow-moving traffic around 30 minutes from the festival, was similarly underwhelming before a few delayed honks appeared.
Scott accepted that the feature had not demonstrated the power of Radio 2 quite as dramatically as planned.
The Birthday Game: David
David turned 58 while on holiday in Croatia with his husband.
He preferred to travel for his birthday because it reduced the pressure of organising celebrations at home.
David shared his birthday with Meryl Streep, Cyndi Lauper and author Dan Brown.
His ideal artists included George Michael, Kylie Minogue and Pet Shop Boys.
His first spin was Erasure’s ABBA-Esque EP, the duo’s only UK number one.
David accepted it immediately.
An unused alternative was Charlene’s I’ve Never Been to Me.
Leigh-Anne Pinnock
Leigh-Anne joined Scott after releasing Don’t Say Love, her first solo single following Little Mix.
The interview came shortly after her wedding in Jamaica.
She discussed adjusting to working without the rest of the group and the pressure of establishing a sound and identity that belonged to her alone.
The single represented the beginning of a new chapter rather than a rejection of Little Mix.
Finding her own voice
Leigh-Anne spoke about the freedom and vulnerability involved in being responsible for an entire song, performance and visual campaign herself.
She had spent years sharing decisions with three other performers and now had to trust her own instincts.
Scott also reflected on Camille Purcell’s role as a writer for Little Mix before her collaboration with Nile Rodgers.
Glastonbury from home
Scott divided listeners into two groups: those who loved becoming feral in a field and those who wanted the festival with snacks, shelter and a working toilet.
He firmly placed himself in the second group while promoting Radio 2 and BBC coverage across the weekend.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after previewing the Glastonbury Wonder Years.
