Spice Girls reunion rumours
Scott played Mel B discussing the possibility of another Spice Girls reunion on the American talk show The View.
Mel said all five members were speaking and that an announcement would be made soon, although she refused to reveal the details.
Scott hoped the announcement might involve Glastonbury, but the suggestion was dismissed during the interview.
He also noted that an actress dressed as Geri Halliwell had been seen filming The Crown, suggesting that the Spice Girls would appear somewhere in the royal drama.
Giddy Up takes over Michael’s brain
Michael called after Shania Twain’s Giddy Up! became lodged in his head for an entire week.
He said the phrase had begun appearing in normal conversations and even while rereading The Lord of the Rings, with Sam and Frodo now “giddy-upping through the Shire”.
Scott promised to use Claudia Winkleman’s horse impression as a warning whenever the song was about to be played.
Michael agreed that he would either turn the radio down or put his fingers in his ears.
The Birthday Game: Adrian
Adrian turned 52 and supported Leicester City with his son Jacob.
They had recently met the players at a hotel before a match against Nottingham Forest and tried to encourage them. Leicester then lost 2–0, which Adrian blamed on Jacob’s bad luck.
He spent every birthday trout fishing, although he admitted that he usually returned without catching anything.
Adrian shared his birthday with Neil Diamond, Luis Suárez, Vic Reeves and the Roman emperor Hadrian.
His first spin was Mika’s Grace Kelly, number one in 2007. Adrian rejected it.
The second was Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now. Although it reminded him of school discos, he chose to gamble again.
His compulsory final song was Owl City’s Fireflies, number one in 2010.
Adrian liked it, but then admitted that he “should have gone for Tiffany”. Scott suggested the phrase should become shorthand for making a bad choice.
The Music Police
Carrie had spent several years trying to identify a 1990s dance song from a short melody.
The mystery returned after she began introducing her children to music from the decade.
The first major suggestion was Crystal Waters’ Gypsy Woman, whose “la da dee, la da da” refrain sounded close to Carrie’s voice note. She immediately ruled it out.
Thousands of listeners instead suggested La Bouche’s Be My Lover.
Scott played the opening and Carrie recognised it.
She said she could finally return to the pub, where she had repeatedly sung the unknown melody to friends, and put the actual track on the jukebox.
The Music Police declared the case closed.
Handover
Scott handed over to Sara Cox after announcing that Trevor Nelson would join him the following afternoon for a new game called Never Have I Trevor.
