Sam Ryder co-hosts
Sam Ryder joined Scott throughout the programme rather than appearing for a short interview.
The two revisited the Eurovision campaign that had transformed Sam’s career and discussed the months following his second-place finish.
Sam brought his usual enthusiasm to links, listener messages and the day’s features.
Scott encouraged him to try the practical parts of live radio as well as talking about music.
The Birthday Game: Kate
Kate’s son Bill was a major Sam Ryder fan.
She explained that the family had followed Sam’s TikTok performances before he was announced as the UK’s Eurovision entry.
Sam recorded a message for Bill before helping Scott with the game.
Kate rejected Wings’ Mull of Kintyre and then Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself, saying she wanted something more energetic.
Her final song was Blue and Elton John’s Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word.
Scott apologised because Kate had wanted a birthday banger, while Sam sent his love to Bill.
Christmas with Sam
Sam discussed festive music, performing live and the demands of a year in which almost every part of his life had changed.
His appearance felt more like an afternoon spent with a friend than a conventional promotional interview.
Handover
Scott and Sam handed over together after wishing listeners a merry Christmas.
