Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Well it just keeps getting better and better – even more top acts are coming to Boro for Radio 1’s Big Weekend!
“It’s obvious now that people are starting to look at our region in a completely different light. We’re no longer being ignored, and step by step we’re attracting sports events and music gigs, attracting more visitors and adding more money to our local economy.
“We have a string of events coming up, including the Great North CityGames, Take That and Jess Glynne, and with the Rugby League World Cup coming in 2021. With more support, we’ll keep attracting those nationally-significant events to the Tees Valley.”
